This is quite a machine. It seems to be traction limited.

Friend of mine had one of those. Rattle can flat back. With a turbo. And leather buckets from a 300zx. And 17x10 wheels w/ big meats. Cool.

that's the best use i've ever seen for one of those engines.. but he needs to figure out a way to plug the hole in the hood- the cheesier looking the better.. perhaps some sort of a tacky stick on hood scoop from the local PepZone..

good luck.. most of them were junked years ago and took their pedals and bellhousing with them..

there is a company that makes reproduction clutch linkage parts for them now, and some people have used slightly 80's F body and S truck clutch pedals.. that only leaves the bellhousing, which had the pivot ball in a weird location for whatever reason.. but if you go with a hydraulic clutch, you only need to source a junkyard pedal and whatever bellhousing you want to run.

too bad it doesn't ft under the hood. Looses the sleeper look with an engine sticking out the hood.

Needs more woodgrain peel-n-stick. Less crappy 8.1L nonsense.

you are entitled to your opinion and i totally respect it, even if it's terribly wrong in every way.. except for the wood grain- yes, it needs woodgrain.

I can't think of a better use for a derelict 8.1.

Never have a driven a bigger pos then when it has the 8.1 in it. Oil burning, gas guzzling, gas trans shifting strategy POS.

Most of the g-bodys I've seen have the knock out panels in the floor for the shifter and pedals. hardest part is finding the parts. I had a '87 Cutlass 2 door that had a 3 speed manual trans. It made a boring car fun to drive.

i've only known a couple of people that have had 8.1 powered trucks, and their experience was the opposite of yours.. one of them lost his 6 month old 8.1 powered 2500HD crew cab in a flash flood and got a same year Duramax as a replacement and was disappointed.. the 8.1 pulled his gooseneck loaded tractors to various tractor pulls without complaint and the Duramax just didn't have the oomph the 8.1 had..

but either way- this car weighs at least a ton less than anything that engine came in stock and who cares if it burns a little oil? a torquey big block backed with a stick shift in a 3500 pound car is a winning recipe even if you gotta keep a few extra quarts of oil in the back at all times..
