Does anyone from the area know the status of the Pick-n-Pull over in Freetown? I just went online to double check their hours and this message was there:

As of 4/5/2015, the Freetown Pick-n-Pull location no longer has retail or scrap operations. We encourage our retail customers to visit our Rhode Island stores listed below.

That was the last good junkyard in the area, that I knew of at least. Cars organized in rows and sitting off the ground. Too bad.

That sucks. It was one of the better ones in the area. My home town (Carver)still has a working junkyard like that, but my guess is that it won't be like that for much longer.

Anderson's in Plympton was my go-to yard. They didn't care what you did or how long you wandered around.

Middleboro Auto Salvage was like that too.

We stayed away from Chuckrans in Bridgewater because those guys were shiny happy people from the word go (although the last time I was there I was treated very well).

Robertsons in Wareham treated us well too. Free range parts hunting.

There was a pick n pull down on the Cape that I frequented quite a bit. Let me wander around there and pull off whatever I wanted. Had fun removing a rear windshield from an A2 Jetta by myself there...

Middleboro Auto Salvage hasn't changed from anything I can see. I just hate how they sometimes stack cars on top of each other, makes it difficult to get stuff.

I have no complaints about Chuckran's from the one time I went there.

Robertsons let's you walk around their yard? I didn't think they let you wander around, I've bought stuff from them a handful of times and once they definitely told me to be allowed access to remove parts from a car I had to come back at a scheduled time?!?! They do use car-part.com so I can check their inventory before driving which is helpful.

As for the Cape, I think the only working junkyard is out in Dennis. Never been there though. The others I knew of all closed down.

There's a yard in Carver? I didn't know that. It's pretty close to me so I will have to check it out.

A friend and I were allowed to roam all over Robertsons looking for Bronco and Mustang stuff.

Got an XJ Dana 44 for $100 at MAS.

IIRC the Carver yard is on the road next to Cumberland Farms off of 58 near the police station.

They let me out to scrounge Samurai stuff and never bothered me.

I look like an honest person I guess, except for that one bad day at Chuckrans, I've been given lots of freedom at most local yards. This includes the yards on Thatcher Street in East Bridgewater.

The one I went to on the Cape was in Hyannis. I did leave there 11 years ago tho

The one in Dennis on the cape closed down a few years ago. The one in Carver is called Ferreira's junk yard on West street. Been there forever. The owner can be a bit surly at times, but over all a good place. Used to have way more inventory, but now he has a crusher so stuff doesn't stick around as long.

I remember years ago(99 or so) at Ferreiras in Carver I went to look for a bunch of stupid stuff like fasteners, and knobs for my 83 RX-7. I came out with a coffee can full of stuff. The owner was angry at me for asking how much for the stuff. He called me an shiny happy person for not just shoving the stuff in my pocket or toolbox like the rest of the riff-raff. I just couldn't steal it. He let me have it for free.

In reply to Mazdax605:

That's a great story!

Similarly, I had a decent amount of random parts at Anderson's in Plympton, an armful for sure. One of the very large, grizzled old owners barely glanced over and mumbled "five bucks" past the stubby cigar in his mouth. Sold!

I also walked out of there with two then-new bucket seats for $25 for the pair. Bolted right into my Ranger!

Last time I bought something from Ferreiras it was a Rover 4.0 for $400. I started pulling it myself, but Johnie decided to help. He grabbed the loader with the big forks, picked up the Land Rover by skewering the roof. He rolled it onto its side right in front of the crusher and asked if I wanted to use the fire wrench. No thanks Johnie, I'll unbolt it. When I was done, all he wanted were the cats. He threw the starter, and the computer in the back of my truck and asked if I wanted anything else cause it was getting squished. It had perfectly good glass, and body panels, transfer case, etc. but he crushed it anyway. To those guys, everything is scrap. I bought a couple of Ford Explorer limited slip disc brake rear ends for $100 a piece, and he even fire wrenched them out for me. Even left the rear half of the driveshaft on the rear end. Great guy, but more than a little nutty.
