A local shop here in the Portland area did an old audi quattro coupe with an s4 motor. I don't know the details but my buddy works as a tech there so I will see what I can find out for you...

Why not just make it a LSx conversion with the awd then? adapter plate and such...

Ehhh... maybe after i've already yanked the existing BP out of the Escort and have a spare drivetrain lying around. That would make the investment of a BP Festy pretty minimal.

This is more about passion than performance. I lust after a 5cylinder 20vt. I don't lust after an LSx.

neither do i really, I prefer a chevy 350 over a LSx conversion any day. But if you want torque a v8 is the way to go...

It's down to $600 now...but sounds like it will need a trans.

...I've been thinking about finding a Coupe Quattro to put my AAN out of my S4 in... Can't do that just yet though :) ...maybe this next winter I'll buy a beater and do it :)

Quit trolling craigslist Ben, you don't need another car!

I've got a lead on another one that sounds way better... Downside is that it's a good 12-14 hour drive away.

What really sucks is that i'm now considering a Miata instead, due to all the recent threads again. I'm just unsure if i can find a Miata that i'll be happy with on say... a $3k budget. I'm a little picky, so i will only settle for a 1.8 Torsen model.

Audi 90 quattro 20v vs. Miata?

I can DD anything, so that's not an issue, and either way, i'll have to buy an SUV for the girlfriend by next winter, so that's out of the equation.

So purely on a fun factor... i have no idea which would be a better fit. I've already got a light, tossable car. And i've already got a big power car, but it can't hook up.

The logical answer is..... Celica AllTrac?

You going to be back in town for Winged Warrior, Alex? Let me know, we can hang out or something. You still owe me a crack at the Porsche in the MX6 anyways.

The answer is Miata. Seriously, even I got one. Pretty clean, original owner 115k mile 1.6 viscous with hard top and no rust in your budget range.

If you really want one, now's the time to get serious. Local prices will only go up as it get's warmer and won't come back down towards reality till fall.

That's the issue... i don't want the 1.6.

I have a feeling i'm going to have to end up making a new thread... because once i let my mind wander, i can think of a whole bunch of cars i could want. The worst part is... if i could be patient and wait til the end of the year, i could probably swing an MR2 Spyder, and they push my happy buttons a bit more than a Miata. Ugh.

And i still want the Audi. I need a second job.

if you need a awd car for winter, you already posted that lowered turbo gsr engined crv, get a crv and drop it.

Yeah... that's a different situation, though. I'm going to end up with 5 cars by next winter i think. I'm looking for a day to day car for me that i can enjoy. The MX6 isn't really that. It's hard to enjoy day after day after day.

The CRV is a good idea for the gf, though.

Then again my fiancee has a Saturn vue awd with v6. Its an automatic, but has a honda v6 in it from the factory. Its actually a pretty nice car, and we've had minimal problems. Granted there is almost no performance aftermarket for it, but still.
