The new Autoblog.com

Not quite as bad as the jalop...but not as good as it was either...

I dunno, I'm kinda liking Autoblog right now...

I have no comment on the interface. I read it through an RSS feed.

^ not a flounder, but certainly a red herring.

The interface is ugly, but I don't normally read autoblog, so I won't be affected by it.

Jalop's was much, much more nausea inducing.

Not only was Jalop's design terrible, they changed their format to trash and ditched/lost some of the more talented writers.

The Truth About Cars is much better, IMHO.

I generally hate change for the sake of change. I see no improvement, and the pics seem to take forever to load. I just got a new version of MS office. It sucks too.

Yeah, I'm aniticipating a good amount of hate for the sake of change (or vice versa) when we rework our sites later this year. Luckily we won't be changing format very much, just layout/navigation and the style sheets so it looks a little nicer.

Of course, there are a long list of good reasons to make updates in our case, but I'd bet that Autoblog had some technical issues they needed to address too. People like to complain about change.

Tom:

The only suggestion I have is make sure it all works, that has been my biggest problem with the changes at Jalop. Half of it didn't work, or cause lag, etc etc ad nausem, blah blah.

cool to know surprises are in our future!

If it doesn't cause my machine to crash, it will be better than the Jalopnik abortion.

And you know this, but PLEASE do some kind of normal forum. There are too many good forum softwares out there to do a weird custom one that is different for the sake of different.

I don't think I've ever gone to Jalopnik or Autoblog except when someone posted a link here to a certain story of interest. Are those sites that people actually go to on their own?

It won't be "normal" but it won't be different (other than the look) either. We are married to the current software for the foreseeable future.

the most annoying thing about the gawker redesign is that it seems that the stories and posts have taken a back seat to putting ads on the page. when the Black Magic car care products ad is larger than the picture of whatever car they're talking about, we have issues. only using 1/4 of the page width for the actual story is just utter crap, imo.

i am glad that they finally fixed all the stack overflows and browser crashes/hangups, though.
