All right, so to bring this thread back up.. Todays autocross went pretty good... My driving/confidence levels were to be questioned, but my alignment changes look like they have helped my situation...

If you haven't followed all the way threw, I went from 3.25 deg front camber to 2.25... This event I also decided to go up in tire pressures.. I was running the fronts at 40psi, and the rears at 40psi to start the day... The car was really loose.. My driving wasn't helping the situation either though..

I ended up dropping the rear tire pressures down to 36psi and softening up my rear shocks by a fair amount... This brought the back end of the car more in control...

At the end of the day the car felt pretty good, and I didn't have any more issues with inner tread ware...

So last weekend I ran another event... At this event I decided to have a look at tire temps.. Even at 2.25 deg camber the inner tread was about 4 - 5 deg hotter then the outer tread..

I took all my readings as soon as I came out of the stop box and was clear of danger..

Looks like you could use a little more pressure.

'Kooks

Next time you need tires, try the Hankook Z214 C71. They're cheaper and stickier than the Kumho's. I've had no real problems with longevity; I usually replace 2 per season, wihich means I'm effectively getting 2 seasons per set.

+1for jstein77

my tire man pointed out that the Hankook's were something like 60% the cost, 85% the grip (we were talking about the C51 compared to the A6) and 150% the life

I was running about 42 psi in the front.. 36psi in the rear.. I didn't really take any temp measurements for the rear tires.. I was only looking at my fronts.. How much higher would you go in pressure??

How about the C71's.. how do they stack up? I haven't seen anyone using the hankooks locally..

they're more like the A6's where the C51's are more comparable to a R6

so still less expensive than the purple crack, should have nearly the grip, and should last longer ....

if you're after the absolute max grip for a 2 - 3 lap banzai run ... (and you're restricted to DOT rubber) then the Hoosier's are still the go to tire

but for track days, even TT runs (hint: my car isn't competitive with others in the class) the the Kooks make a lot more sense $200/tire vs #125/tire

they also make a C91 that is so sticky you can lay your hand on it and just pick it up .... but it's only available in a very small selection of sizes

So if they don't quite stack up to the A6, then how do they stack up against the V710's?? The V710's are known to be not quite as fast, but a little more durable then A6's... It this point I am guessing just price is the difference??

I am trying to be as fast as possible out there.. My car is an underdog, but proving to have great potential in SMF.. I am budget limited so this is good information to keep in mind..

You took temperature readings. What was the middle/center reading ? temps should be fairly even across the tread. I was guestimating before since the cente groove didn't seem worn. Another internet diagnosis.

equal or better .. less $$$

if you're under-prepped and want to use the tires to make up for it ... then A6 all the way

(the C71 should be very close to the A6, since they're a lot stickier than thee C51, which is more like the R6)

+1 on the Kooks. I'm running the C71s on the Abomination. Plenty sticky enough for me.

You also might think about the American Racing tires. Curmudgeon is running them on the Jensenator and seem to like them. He did say they took some getting used to. They are bias ply and have a higher slip angel than a radial does. They are even cheaper than the Kooks.

If you want to be as fast as possible, then you need the fastest tire that's legal, and for street mod that's a Hoosier A6. There's really no other way around it.

What sizes are you using? Can you fit the 275/35R15s?

With the right wheel and some "persuasion" he can. And that's really what he needs if he's talking national level.

That combination is on list of need to buy, but can't afford... I am working my way up with used set ups that I can get my hands on just to keep me racing for now... I am hoping by the end of next year I'll have enough saved up to spend the big money on some 15x10 rims for the front 15x8s for the rear and 275 hoosiers...

Next year I am going to be trying some 205/50/15 A6s with very little use on them...
