Looks like Detroit has some great real estate for autocrossing.
1) the lots in the picture are small. 2) with all of the developement that is happening, they won't last long. (where you see the dark buildings on the lower left side is where the new Joe Louis will partially be, too)
3) the island you see in the backgound has one of the best autocross lots in the area. and when the city was in control of it, it was pretty easy and reasonable to get.
Really- what you see there- if you didn't buy into it 3 years ago, it's too late.

4) its Detroit, who the heck wants to move there let alone autocross?
In reply to turboswede:
Old joke, but the area pictured is actually adding people.
The change going on right now is quite substantial.
Those lots aren't that big in person. They're also full of light poles, cross streets, and curbs.
Also, even if they were, they're mainly used as parking for Ford Field and Comerica Park (which are off camera but very close by, you can barely see the edge of the scoreboard of Comerica Park on the left side of the image), so you couldn't run on any day with a Lions or Tigers game.
Detroit Region and DCSCC has plenty of good sites outside the city
When everyone was laughing at Detroit and mocking blocks upon blocks of challenged priced houses, they should have been investing. Cheap property surrounded by infrastructure never stays cheap

I've been out of the scene for a few years, is the Belle Isle site a no-go these days? If so, that'd be a shame, it was a GREAT autocross site.
And those lots are not very big. Look at them compared to the freeways next to them.
