It could be England vs. Spain, Greenland vs. the Solomon Islands: On November 1 at the Circuit of the Americas, the Hi-Performance Expo will host the Optima Batteries World Championship Autocross.
The field has been capped at 100 entries and the rules are rather loose: production-based, limited aero and 200tw tires.
The purse: "The field is capped at 100 …

in for unplugged performance to show up in a bonkers tesla
I wonder what the fastest vehicle in this ruleset would be? DMod Lotus 7 on street tires?
Considering there is no weight minomum and you need to run 18" wheels to get the really wide sizes, what would you build with a finite amount of money? Something light and awd?
The things I am normally interested in would run narrower street tires or wider r compounds due to scca autocross rules.

Their Pikes Peak car would be a good start.
I wonder if a Lotus Seven would be accepted. Maybe a true 60's Lotus.

Whatever Danny Popp shows up in...

Yeah, it would have to be a true one (factory vin #, no kit cars). But from there you can hack away.
Of course DP Miatas get stupid light as well. Not 7 territory, but they get down to min weight. Add a bit for a windshield, subtract a bit for a K series?
Given how close CSP comes to setting some of the fastest times at almost any national event, I think a DP Miata + a windscreen and a different powerplant could be the ticket.
I don't think I can get the car together in time..... I don't know if I could wheel it fast enough for this either.

Is it Turbo to want more out of life?
SSM car. Eric Anderson's Miata would be a good start. Or Glagola's old Lotus. Figure out a way to get 18s on them (probably easier on the Miata than the Lotus, which wold be almost impossible).
I have a feeling that 7s and Stalkers might be bumped out because of the open-wheel restrictions, but a Stalker AXR on some 18s or 19s with Kumho ACRs would be hard to beat.
Also, the smartest move here was to do this in a limited time window. Announce this a year out and you have a dozen cars that show up and cause rules nightmares. Announcing it a coupe months out means it's pretty much limited to existing cars, maybe with some bigger wings or splitters, and a different wheel and tire package if they normally run R-comps.

Yes. If they try to run this annually, with that size purse it will get silly in a hurry.
I'm thinking Nocones' LMP360 build would be a great starting point, once freed from the $2k Challenge budget.

Dude, November 1 is in just one month. (I know, right?)
And speaking of Erin Anderson's Miata:

Or SSM S2000? Stalkers don't pass the factory vin/kit car restriction. Since like 99.9999% of 7s are clones I think the likelyhood of one of those builds is near zero. Would be cool though.
I like the stakes, hope this event turns out well. Seems like with real money on the line it might draw some more attention to the sport.

V720ACRs are only available in 19s. The answer is the narrowest, lightest car that you can fit 295/19s (or the 355s if you're truly insane) under, with AWD as a bonus. The super short sidewall 295 ACRs fit on a model 3, so that might actually be a contender despite the weight. Given the venue and the people making the course it's likely to have a lot of low speed digs which is the tesla's forte.
Dallas Cutler's SM winning Evo would probably do really really well here. Also the DP Miatas. Maybe a really well sorted CAM-S or XS car.
Given the no weight and exotic allowed though, I'd be tempted to bring something Porsche with PDK and AWD like a GT3 RS in SSP trim.
I could see a dark horse JDM imported car, too.

In reply to Javelin (Forum Supporter) :
All the Porsche GT cars are rwd only. Closest thing that's awd is the turbo models and those are generally a pain to make turn well. And I don't think the ACRs fit without a lot of modification and extra width.

While it's not the definitive tire performance metric, regarding tire width and the associated 'need' for 18+ inch wheels to get the really wide rubber... Consider that a 1500 lb car + driver on 245's already has a larger relative tire width than anything weighing more than 2175 lb car + driver on 355's. Hell, drop it to 225's on the 1500 lb car and it's still more relative tire than 355's on a 2375+ lb car.
SSM cars on 200TW tires are likely to be the hot ticket here (Lafawnduh and the Lotus Exige). Danny Popp is already used to the tires being a CAM-S guy. I'd say it'll largely depend on the course design.
If this were Hollywood, Cole Trickle would show up in a stock Camaro and win.

Why SSM over a DM/EM or even XP?

I don't know with this ruleset that there would be much of a difference. Take a Miata, give it all the power, give it all the weight reduction, and the right tires.
I'm not up to speed on exactly what the V720 ACR is. I mean I know its a Viper tire, but I presume its a 200TW 'cheater' tire? the 295 is a 25" diameter tire, so it would work perfect on an NC Miata or S2000.
