I have been seeing a lot of broken auto trans miatas pop up lately. Is there another auto that can be thrown in? Worth converting to manual?

Whats someone to do with it?

Low buck ideas...

I would buy a manual trans and do a swap. The trans itself seem to go around $300-350 on ebay.

Don't forget that the automatics made like 10 less HP than the stick-shift. IIRC they have a different intake cam...

That's only for the 90-93s with the 1.6. 1.8 autos are the same motor as the manual.

Worth converting, but that's about it. It's a horrible, horrible drivetrain. So slow and unrewarding. When I worked at TWS, one of the driving school cars was an auto 1.6L. You could keep the pedal on the floor between the exit of turn 10, and the entry of turn 3.

I have a 1.6 and trans ready to drop in I would sell. Then you just need the pedal and clutch hydraulics. Maybe driveshaft?

We just pulled a functioning 1994-97 automatic from a car if anyone wants one. We'll be replacing it with a 6-speed.

And an LS3.

Hmmm, i was worried about this.

A swap might not be bad. I saw a few i could use for the Asphault Adventure trip but if i have to swap a trans seems like it defeat the purpose.

Keith, is that trans for sale or just get it out of here kinda thing haha

Any engine swap would be out of the question as well cause that would go against the trip rules. Maybe ill suck up and figure just keep an auto for the trip?

EvanB, that is a tempting offer.

When an auto to manual swap is done can you keep the auto driveshaft? Seems like no. Also, i imagine the Auto trans equipped cars got open diffs?

$350 plus shipping.

Driveshafts are the same for both trans.

All autos have open diffs.
