I am piecing together the hoses/connectors for a custom AC system.

I need to insert a low side port and a high side port for measuring system pressure.

Is there an industry standard for where these two ports should be located in the system? My thoughts were that I would want to measure pressure at the input to the compressor and at  the output of the dryer.

Convenient location, as much as anything.  If there is a bunch of pressure difference from one end to the other of a hose, the hose is too small.

Convenient location above all else. As long as you are in a cold and hot line, all that matters.

Initial thoughts were that I wanted to see the full pressure drop across the system. In that case I would have the pressure ports both at the firewall connectors.  But I never see that in practice so wondered if there was anything I was missing.

I am also assuming that there is some system "resistance" same as in an electrical circuit so that the pressure coming out of the pump will not be the same as the pressure coming out of the dryer. There is some mysterious correlation between the low and high side pressures when filling the system so that led me to asking the question on where to take the high/low readings.

AC turns out to be a very complicated simple thing.

They pretty much go anywhere.  My favorite is when they are both 2 inches apart with the orifice tube between them smiley
