Can't speak for the young'uns on here, but my developmental years as a car guy, old fuddy duddys drove 4 drs, and rode motorcycles with farings! 4drs ment you were a average 9 to 5 er, with 2.5 kids...

Wait, wut?
Yup. I said to myself that i have too many cars and projects many times.
And im 41...
I'm only 42.

Immediately I heard a voice in my head say, "who the berk said that?"
Understandable if the Impala's previous owner is named Nick Scavo.

From a person who in his younger years would ridicule automatic owners if they actually had enough limbs to operate a manual.
This exactly. I always looked at a great looking car, but seeing an auto instead of a manual would instantly change my mind about the car. (Somehow Chryslers were an exception to this). Now I'm looking at -finally- driving an automatic DD... Sadly...
"It's kind of nice NOT having a project car, just a couple drivers..."
"And then Dad got in his CHEVY EV and drove home..."
Fifteen years ago the knowledge that future dad would be driving either a domestic car or an EV would have me falling over in disbelief. He started driving imports in the early 60's and has always talked smack about American cars (big, heavy, slow-handling, inefficient, terrible quality) until very recently. Trucks were a different story, but that starts wandering off topic...

I wish. I have a base model 2005 with a 3.4. Not even a 3.8 much less an aluminum 632 big block.
" I think I prefer an automatic for daily driving"
"a cuv makes a lot of sense for us"
"5k still buys a decent Miata, but I really should save that for my student loans"
"I bet we could live with only one car"
I knew someday I would build an EFI engine. Building one now. Never thought I'd see the day. I thought I'd be a hardcore lead sled guy until I died.
I paid cash for a brand new vehicle at a dealership.
Then turned around and sold it to another dealer for a profit.
"I'll just pay someone to fix that"
"The next family car we buy should be a minivan"
And just a few weeks ago, perhaps the most personally soul crushing thing I've heard myself say; "No, I decided not to get the air cooled 911 that I've wanted since I was a kid, when would I drive it? We should put the money I'd set aside for it into the kids college funds instead."
I may have to revisit the last one at some point.
Helping SkinnyKid2 with the PT Cruiser beater he just bought for $500:
"I'll cover the parts you need, but when you're ready to move on from it, I get the PT Cruiser for free. Deal?"
Why, you ask?
Because I found this inspiration. and I want to build it:
I really like my Honda Element
I can only really see myself buying one more car anytime in the near future. (and honestly meaning it)
"I don't want to drive my sports car because:
"I'll buy a car with DBW and build another"
Early DBW cars were garbage and I've long thought I'd never own a DBW car. My mom's Mazda 3 started changing my feelings.

This makes sense because Mazda is one of the few vehicle manufacturers that truly understands how to calibrate digital driving inputs.
An E36/8 was the first DBW car I remember hating. Mom's 2010 Mazda 3 is the first I remember liking. I was driving mom's old cable throttle 2004 Forester at the time(last year before DBW).
The DBW throttle in my E38 is quite good. No perceptible lag or anything. The pedal being a bit front-loaded in terms of response curve is really the only giveaway it's not a cable throttle. On the other hand, drive a mid-2000s Toyota / Lexus. Those have horrid DBW throttles, the 4cyl Toyotas being the worst, the 6cyl Lexus models being less bad. They're numb, laggy, everything bad I can think of for DBW.
