Cliffnotes, I may or may not have bought a 73 240Z. I rode around in my friends dad's Datsun roadster. I did have a lot of beer and went sailing. Fantastic.

Sweet. My brain is trying to kill me, by talking me into a 240Z. It would look good beside the 240sx and NX2000, I think.
(What he said^^^)
One of my customers has an absolutely immaculate 1600 (similar to the top car) in pale yellow . Then again, he used to be a Datsun dealer..
I had a 1967 2000 Roadster that looked just like that. Loved driving it, HATED working on it. Datsun was still learning how to make thing servicable and learned quite a bit on this car.
Parts are really hard to find; back in the mid 1980's I remember that a new grill was several hundred dollars... now? Ugh. If you were a blasphemer and installed a modern engine I won't tell, though at this point I don't know whether their value allows such defacing.

They only made 1,000 of this model and they are well sought after. Where did it go?
A few questions while I'm thinking about it. Are these snowflake wheels off a 280Z or ZX? Also the 73 front bumpers are sort of an in between year and harder to find. I know you can retrofit the older bumpers on but is there just a cheap alternative I can throw on the front to match the rear?
Edit: Apparently the snowflakes are off of an 81 ZX Turbo and was possibly a 1 year only wheel from what I read.
Not sure about those bumpers...since it's still a 240, you might be able to throw earlier bumpers on it and use the earlier brackets. I know when converting a 260 or 280 to the small bumpers you need different brackets, but your car might already have the holes and everything to just bolt on the earlier brackets. I may be working on this same problem here soon, as I hopefully am getting a '75 280z for super cheap very soon.
Yeah I believe I have the holes but need different brackets. Ill try to just find a 73 front bumper if I can. This is my 7th Nissan but first z without a 383 in it. I plan on having some L series fun
In reply to crankwalk:
Sweet! The L series rocks. Not as much power as your previous experience, for sure, but stout and torquey nonetheless. Lots of performance parts available too! I'm hoping to be enjoying an L series again soon too!
My plan with the Datsun is just a tune up, dash cap, and Plastidip. I've got the Ferrari to really finish so this will be a cheap little diversion to play with but not spend any real money on for now. Challenge friendly pricing so far.
Cool, those are my plans too if I get my buddy's 280z. Tune up, tires, general clean up-basically make it pass inspection and decent enough for my 2 mile drive to work. You should still do a build thread!

I'll plan on on doing a mini thread on it for sure. The car has A/C as well that I plan on getting going if I can. Pretty weird for a 240Z.
For sure. As far as I know A/C was a dealer installed accessory back then. Hope you get it working, especially living in Georgia! I used to live in Lawrenceville, and worked a little with a guy who is a Z guru. His name is John Williams, and he used to work in a shop behind Balanced Performance in Sugar Hill. Look him up if you have questions-he can tune an SU carb in his sleep!

Nice that is good to know. I've been to balanced several times but not since maybe 2004. Its hard to find a place with a dyno and tunes carbs.
Yeah, John doesn't work for Balanced, but knows the guys there. For Z's, he's better than the guys at BP-after all, he has probably 25+ years of Z-only experience. I don't know if you remember the yellow Classic Motorsports 240z, but he did some work on that. I actually helped him install the 5 spd tranny in that car. He knows his stuff, and having a dyno right next door at BP is handy. I haven't talked to him in years (I moved away from there in '07), but I assume he still is working there.
