Looking to change the axle ratio in my car, but can't find a calculator that will give me an idea of the improvement I may get. Going from 3.27 to 4.10. Everything is weight and Hp = ET, or "find the best ratio for your car". I've got approx 200hp and 3400lbs. (no rocket for sure) Current best is 15.13

What rpm is your peak power? How flat is the power past peak / how long does it last? What tire size/rollout? What is the ratio of your top end gear?

Good rule of thumb is gear to go through the traps at or just past max power rpm. I have always been quicker going more aggressive, rather than less. Riding the limiter for a tiny bit has been faster than leaving 100-200rpm on the table.

Assuming there are no limiting factors in the earlier gears of course, like 1-2 traction with the higher final.

I'm not sure there's an easy answer to this one, as every car is different.

My 95 V8 T-Bird has similar hp (205) to yours, but more weight (3600-ish at the time). Swapping from 3.27s to 3.73s, adding a limited slip diff, and replacing the iron driveshaft with an aluminum one only dropped my ET by .15 second, from 15.75 to 15.60. I was not amused.

On the other hand, my 94 Thunderbird SC had a best street tire ET of 13.62 with 3.27s. I swapped to 2.73s (not a typo) and improved to 13.21. The taller gear not only eliminated the need for the 3-4 shift at the top end, but also put more load on the blower in first gear, allowing it to make more boost. I was very amused.

I can just make it through the lights in 3rd with the 3.27.
