So, my buddy's girlfriend "helped" him jump start his car. One major flaw...she hooked up the positive to negative...

Any idea of what needs to be checked? It's a 1987 MR2. He actually thought it might be a relay, so he replaced that and the battery yesterday and that didn't do it. Any other ideas?

Pretty much every fuse in the entire car needs to be checked. If it still won't start after that, ECU might be fried, or there might be burned up wires.... everywhere.

Check the AM2 fuse. Otherwise, I think there is a fusible link in the first few inches of the positive battery cable.

Yep. That's where I'd suspect the problem to be. Presuming the car is currently sitting there like a dead slug.

If you're real lucky only the main battery fuses would have asploded (assuming it has them, most Toyotas of that era did). If you're even luckier they won't be fused to the connectors (as on most Toyotas of that era).

That killed the main relay on my MKIV supra, which shouldn't have been a major issue, but it was dealer only at the time and they had to order it. Put me out of commission for a few days, so I had to get a rental car. Thinking back this may have been the true start of my car-whoreishness because I have not since had to rent a car because of a breakdown.
