One of the most entertaining races of the year is this weekend - the V8 Supercars race around the Mt. Panorama circuit. This race never fails to disappoint. The last couple of years, we've had flat-out sprint racing for the top five spots for the last few laps. Someone will hit a kangaroo on Conrod Straight. And one of the top drivers is named Frosty Winterbottom.
You can stream it via https://www.v8supercars.com.au/v8superview for about 11 bucks.
You had me at "frosty winterbutt"

Theres been a couple of decent crashes during qualifying.
It's currently a wet track, much slipping and sliding happening.

They're just about to start the warm up. Not to long now till the main event.
David Reynolds (ford) is on pole .
No rain yet, though the skys are
Looking a bit grey.
I love the qualifying of this race. The 10 fastest cars go out for a single flying lap with nobody else on the car in a shootout. And for a lot of them, it was the first time they'd driven in the rain and they couldn't use full throttle in a straight line.
Then they get interviewed live on the air on the cool down lap. Best exchange went something like this:
(commentator) "G'day, it's Rusty. How is it out there?"
(driver, paraphrased) "It's slippery, the first time I've driven this car in the wet. Still, it was a (noise of engine revs spiking up) whoa! Ha ha! I'm going to do that again (engine revs)"

Whether update: satellite images are showing rains on the way. They're estimating about a 70% chance of rain during the race.
If its wet there's going to be some crazy moments.
From the coverage: 7 of the last 10 Bathurst 1000 races have had a winning margin of less than a second. Last year was the largest at 4 seconds, but the last two laps were nail biters.

Crazy how close they can be given how long the race is.
There's an all female driver pairing for the first time in years this year, they're both pretty decent drivers in their own right, will be interesting to see how they go together.
I'd better get outside and get some work done before it a). Gets to damn hot and b). I miss to much.

Well, I'm back, its to hot out there and I'm to buggered after yesterday.
We're a 3rd of the way in and dumbrell is currently leading. It's hot, but looks like the clouds are gathering in the distance.
Looks like a few cars have already finished their day early by crashing out.
And for those interested "frosty" winterbottom is currently in 8th

It's started raining. Just saw the bulk of the feild come into the pits at the same time for wets. A couple of brave soles are trying to stay out there on slicls for another couple of laps to save an extra pit for a driver change
The rain has really shaken things up. Great passing. Three cars wide into turn 2!

Sure has. Scott Pye just plowed into a wall with a tad over 20 laps to go. Safety car is going to make this a close one
What a great race, V8Supercars never fail to entertain
Whincup was a team player - held up the following cars just a little bit on the safety car restart so his teammate could get a cushion before going to serve his drive-through. But Lowndes had the pace to keep the cushion where he wanted it to be. What was the final winning margin, 1.3 seconds?
I'm a Frosty fan myself, but I have to say that SVG is possibly my new favorite. He wanted it more than anyone else out there. He was awesome in the wet.

Was a pretty good race, though I was expecting and hoping the whether would play a larger role.
Svg and Reynolds looked to have the edge in the wet.
Whincup is in a bit of strife, that's the second year in a row he's deliberately defied team orders to the detriment of his result. Apparently the team boss was to livid to even discuss it with him last night.
Yeah, he got thrown under the bus on live tv by the boss.
For those who missed the race, the streaming pass gives you replays for the next year or so.

He did a bit... Probably didn't need to say what he did on TV, would have been more profession to bite his tongue and address the issue post race.
I get the feeling the boss is holding a grudge from last year.

dang, i always miss these because of broke-ness.
I'll just have to watch poorly edited clips of the race on youtube a year from now. Though there is a surprising amount of old race coverage for free there.
ninja edit: the 2012 race is all on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNDlbLpsb0g all 5 hours of coverage.
In reply to Rufledt:
I've watched most of the ones on youtube. I like the classics from the late 70's to mid 80's. I thought I watched last years race live, I know I didn't pay for it. I think it was on Youtube but I may be mistaken.
There was a free live stream on YouTube a couple of years back - it could have been 2012. It's been pay-to-view for the past two years at least. Still, for $11 USD it's well worth it.
