The 2011 KIA Sorento seems to need a new battery. From where and which does the hive recommend?
Didn't start from sitting for two weeks, a jump from the xj took care of it. The terminals also get full of crud easily which may mean internal short. It's at least 4 years old. The car is the main kid driving appliance so I rather be safe than have it not start somewhere.
What battery from napa, autozone, O'Reilly, costco, sams, walmart, etc do you recommend? Will do it tomorrow.
I have one from napa on the jeep xj and it has done very well, about 6 years old and starts everytime, and the jeep usually is driven once every few weeks. Leaning for another napa but don't have any other data points.
Thanks
If you have the store Rural King near you, they have become my go-to for car batteries. Private label batteries made by Excide. When they are on sale it is not uncommon to get a $59 battery that is $100 everywhere else.
I learned of Rural King for batteries here on GRM, probably from PatG.
I go to O'Reilley's or Autozone, usually O'Reilley's. I tell them what vehicle, they look it up and before they go to get it, I tell them to get me the next more powerful battery in the same physical size. It usually costs like ten bucks more for a battery that is significantly more powerful.
I went to O'Reillys recently for a battery for the MPV with power sliding doors that eats batteries every three years. Batteries have gotten pretty expensive, since the cheapest one they had was north of 100 clams and didn't have the CCA (or the warranty) of what I had. The very nice counter sales guy talked me out of buying his battery and instead sent me to Wal-Mart, where, he assured me, they had the best possible prices on batteries since they buy so darn many.
So, instead of a dog, I got Wal-Mart's top battery, for 100 clams. It will last three years, just like all the other ones.
I have Optima Red Tops in pretty much all my cars....the one in my WRX must have like 150k miles on it by now and 10 years. The one in my tow rig is probably 5+ years old no issues and we run a LOT of exterior lighting on that in service areas and never run it down. The one in the rally car finally bit the dust after 8 years of getting bashed around, and sitting for weeks on end, and running craploads of auxiliary lighting (and I replaced it with a Yellow Top). Had one in my Triumph for a good decade, usually a few weeks in between driving with no battery tender. I know some people say that Optimas aaren't "as good as they used to be" but I've had nothing but good experiences with them. Once the battery in my Porsche dies, it'll get a Red Top too.
But yes, they are more expensive, so there is that.
I've been buying whatever they sell at Batteries Plus stores for a long time with good luck.
Don't have a rural king and the tractor supply is a bit far.
Batteries plus is close so I'll look into them.
One power level up is a good idea.
Keep the experiences coming. Thanks.
Wal-Mart has had the best battery prices I can find locally.
And unless I have specific battery needs, most any battery does the job, but I always try to get the largest physical sized battery that fits. It is usually a "free" CCA upgrade.

I go to Costco. They'll return stuff very easy. Had a battery go bad (bad cell) that absolutely should not have gone bad after about 2.5 years. Took it back, they looked up the receipt for me, and swapped it out. Very easy.
All the other batteries I've had from there (all Interstate) have been flawless.
This is from a few years ago when I replaced the Motorcraft battery in the Taurus X with a Walmart Everstart:
Tell me that's not the exact same battery with different stickers. I seem to recall seeing Johnson Controls on them somewhere.
Having said that, I spent $250 on an Odyssey for the SHO a couple of years ago, but that's mainly because I'm an idiot.
Save your money, go with Walmart.
Costco seems to have the best price at this time, $92. Most other $119
In reply to Tom_Spangler :
I think there are 3 US manufacturers who make most lead-acid batteries.
Interstate, Excide and Johnson Controls.
There is a large JC factory in the Toledo, Ohio area that my B-I-L used to work at. I have been inside. There are tons of OEM and private label batteries in there (Die Hard included at that time.) When he worked there, employees could get completely unstickered batteries called "blemishes" for $15. Blemish pretty much meant 1-st quality right off the line with no stickers applied. He got me one for my ole '95 Volvo. I later gave that Volvo to my nephew and the battery lasted 10 years!
After a bad experience with an Optima Yellowtop I now exclusively use whatever brand of battery Advanced Auto sells. Why? There's always a 30% or more coupon code online—by the time you get to the store it's time to pick it up. Pretty decent warranty, and out of the half dozen or so I've bought/recommended to friends in the past few years only had one dud that was replaced with no fuss.
Additionally, I abuse these things. I let a jeep sit for two weeks in subzero temperatures and the battery froze solid. That was interesting. Was just fine after it thawed and I threw it on the charger.
Walmart is about a dollar more than costco. The service at costco may be faster and in a few years better.
Otherwise walmart it would be.
Thanks
Interstate makes all the OE replacement batteries for all the imports (korean and japanese). I tend to default to either their OE replacement (a lot of them are cheaper than parts house stuff) or Interstate itself.
Rural king or batterys plus.
My Battery plus referb is pushing 11 years old in my tractor..... The o'reilly battery in before it lasted about a year on average.
Advance is the only parts store that is far away, they do usually have good discounts.
I'm going to go with an interstate at costco.
Good to know that it's oem for kia.
I just put a AGM battery from Advanced Auto in my SAAB. So far really like it. A bit more $$$ but a significant improvement in CCA. This may be weird but with the new battery the car runs much better than it did with the old one. The old one would go dead if it sat for a couple days. Load tested it after 4 hour charge that said it was fully charged. I am betting the ECU was not seeing good steady power/voltage. That and a good clean ground at the battery.
