Saw that was thinking how cool, then I saw it was on the left coast and way to far to go retrieve a LeMons car.

That fails the Lemons legality test on a multiple of issues. Especially under the 2011 rules.
But its cool as hell :)
I am glad that car is SOOOoooooo far away as that would be a lot of fun with a 1.8 Turbo engine

A 1.7 vw from the early 80s has the same boltpattern as a modern 1.9 tdi?

I was thinking for K-cars. Omnis got a 1.7 VW with the 3spd torqueflite transaxle. It's been built to hold 8 and 9 second 1/4 mile cars, so power is not really a big issue. It would take a lot of work to get a 1.9 to the ~600lb ft that those motors are making.
Im kind of on a 'plan for all possible k-car motor swaps' thing.
