SCCA “Beat the Boss” Runoffs Foot Race to Raise Money for Foundation

TOPEKA, Kan. (July 30, 2009) – In a move straight off of playgrounds across the United States, Sports Car Club of America President & CEO Jeff Dahnert has challenged the Club members to a foot race. On September 25, after the first day of racing at the SCCA National Championship Runoffs, Dahnert will resurrect the “Beat the Boss” challenge, in a four-mile run around Road America to raise money for the SCCA Foundation.

Unlike past renditions of “Beat the Boss,” which involved safety gear and racecars, Dahnert will stick to his strength, doing his racing on the track in a pair of running shoes.

“Earlier this year, we challenged Club Racers to shoot for excellence through the new Super Sweep. Now, I’d like to challenge everyone to join me for four miles of challenging hills around our new Runoffs host site – Road America,” Dahnert said. “Everyone who enters will receive a ‘Beat the Boss’ tee shirt, and anyone who beats me to the finish will receive a special memento proclaiming their accomplishment for all to see.”

When asked what kind of pace could be expected, SCCA’s top man kept things close to the cuff.

“I have a number in mind, but I don’t want [SCCA Enterprises President & CEO] Erik Skirmants to have that for a training target,” Dahnert joked. “I can live with pretty much anyone beating me in this except Skirmants. I see the beginning of a pretty fierce rivalry here, but my ‘chassis’ is a little older than his. I’ll need to keep a couple of tricks up my sleeve.

“All joking aside, this is for fun and charity. Whether you run a four-minute mile or a 12-minute mile, you’re welcome to come and join us.”

Not to be left silent in the smack-talk, Skirmants fired his own shot back to Dahnert.

“Jeff has become a friend and a coach to me in my running efforts, but it is time for the student to become the master,” Skirmants said. “I have gone side-by-side through the kink before, but I can tell you there isn’t going to be room for Jeff next to me!”

The cost to enter the “Beat the Boss 4-Mile” is $25. Registration is handled through SCCA’s registration system at ams.scca.com. Simply log in and select from the “Events” tab. All proceeds will be donated to the SCCA Foundation.
