There's a free car classified magazine type thing around here, and in there I spotted a 1995 Mercury Mystique, V6, 5 speed, power options looks to be in good shape, and asking $1400.

Then the wheels get turning, I know the 2.5 V6 they put in them is part of the Duratec family, and that a 3.0 just about drops in.

How is a Contour/Mystique with a 3.0 swapped in? Is the Mazda or Jaguar version worth swapping in over the Ford to get the VVT? According to wikipedia, the later version of the engine has VVT and all sorts of other goodies too.

Not trying to actually do this, I just really enjoy reading the threads where other people are doing these things.

Wow, I think i have found the one car that GRM has no love for.

I know it's a common swap for Contiques. Head over to CEG (Contour Enthusiast Group) and you'll probably find a bunch of threads. Rather than deal with VVT on the Jag version, I'd probably be more inclined to see if a Duratec 35 from a later Taurus or Edge would work. 260hp stock with corresponding torque. Probably be big fun in a Contique.

Would the ecoboost 3.5L theoretically work?

I like the way Snrub thinks, but that's a whole other kettle of turbocharged, direct-injected, no FWD applications fish.

Of all of that, the FWD part is easy. The rest, not so much.

I wouldn't bother with the VVT since it's much more expensive than the taurus 3.0, and not that much more powerful. I don't recall the specifics, but the hot setup used to be some sort of 3.0/CSVT mash-up. Also, with too much torque, you'll be at the gearbox's limits very fast.

With that said, I used to have a 2.5 Mystique, and it was a nice driving car, so a 3.0 with SVT suspension and an LSD would make a great car.

The 3.5L ecoboost is used in the Taurus and the Flex.

But only in the AWD versions.

That's the easy part to take care of. The rest.....

Isn't that 3.5L/3.7L duratec a different engine family than the older 2.5L/3.0L engines?
