The L67 is the Supercharged version of the 3800. Because boost = fun.

But considering stock versus stock, a manual sho will walk a 3800 s/c car.....and the manual trans will hold up better than the 3.1L v6 5sp that they bolt to the 3800s/c......
Who found the gen 1 in the pull a part in Michigan? That probably has the transmission and shifter assembly duke will need for this. The cable shifter assembly can be retrofitted to the newer "rod shifted" trans IIRC. You should be able to run the factory wiring harness and ecu as well.
Lets also review the NOISE that comes from an SHO and compare that to the awful sounds that are emitted by the GM 90 degree V6

Until you throw a pulley, tuned PCM, & intake on the 3800, that is. These mods alone allowed me to run consistently in the 13.9's with my Impala SS. This is about $250 at new prices in parts.
I vote for a 3800!
FWIW, there's a guy in GA running 13.50's N/A in a 95 sho......these drivetrains beg to be in a lighter car, and let's face it....the Taurus was never that good at drag. There's a reason the shoguns built by beck were so quick.
I still believe its the perfect option for this case
Not that I seriously suggest this, but if you somehow managed to plop a 13B in it you'd get scads of:

Duuuuuuuuuude.
This is begging - no, SCREAMING - for a 2.8 or 3.1 V6 swap.
"Yeah, it's a Ferrari body kit on a Fiero. I unbolted everything that wasn't the engine and stuck a whole Ferrari on top."
I'm gonna take some measurements to see what I can squeeze in there. Think the hard part would be shift linkage.
Guess I will start researching both SHOs and some 3100s
Why not an Alfa 164 engine? It seems like that would end up being more fun than a GM engine, and simpler than an sho most likely.

The Festiva with a SHO engine had some kind of linkage to make it work backwards. A search for SHOGUN might give some info.
I want this car to be able to beat an original 308 and be as mechanically mullet-tastic as possible. No Alfa engine.

Volkswagen TDi drivetrain? I don't think you could fit a Cummins back there. Not without an industrial melon baller to scoop the insides out.
In reply to DukeOfUndersteer:
Also look at the newer 3500 gm (lx9). Over 200 hp stock with a decent aftermarket. Plus nothing is more mulletastic than pushrods.
DukeOfUndersteer wrote: Yea, want to get a weight on the car with motor/trans, gauge a ride height and spring size and rate and try and find a coilover set to rig in place of the original. I would imagine that a stripped GT4 would be sub 2500 pounds. Add a motor/trans, cage, ect. it would get up to 2700 or so. So, cars in that weight range. Mk4 Jettas? Honda Accords? Probably would use the wheels off of the hubs and brakes/wheels off of the Taurus or whatever we buy.
E30s are right around 2700ish.
If you want inspiration, www.mat.fi has three or four 308s in their Projects section.
Clear your desk for a week if you want to view them.
The neat thing is, the cars look very kitcar like. All square tubing and right angles with some bodywork draped on top.
gamby wrote: Um, so this is actually happening?! Is there a build thread in the Builds forum yet?!
Not yet.
I might be moving to Texas in the next 2-3 weeks to take a new job. I could probably pull off buying it and transporting it to Texas later and build it properly in the race shop.
Boss decided to drive his GT4 in today...
