Interesting engine choice. Looks nicely fab'ed, for the most part.

No joke, that's like a 25hp engine normally. Why do all that work and put in a lawn tractor motor? I would think the fab wouldn't be any harder to use a motorcycle engine, the cost wouldn't be any higher, and the results would be way better. That's an assumption, of course, but .. lawn tractor.

Why? Why not use the ATV engine that would be a direct fit to the transmission?

Maybe he had a tractor motor and an ATV transmission laying around the shop. Maybe those are what he's accustomed to working on. Maybe he couldn't find an LSwhatever.

If we get into "wouldn't it have been cheaper to ..." discussion, it would probably be cheaper (money and timewise) to just buy a beater Miata, MGB, etc and drive it as-is. And fit right in. Like everyone else.

Sometimes, it's about doing it yourself. Even if it's goofy.

You shouldn't be allowed to use an engine you can't even spell correctly

And here I thought this thread was going to be about internet prostitution

Very interesting. If I were ever to touch another Berkeley, it would be a bit more like that example than the last one. RWD FTW.

I'd use this engine-

Goofy is okay. But why would you do it yourself if it's BAD? I'm all for DIY and doing neat things, but a lawn tractor engine is a terrible choice. Even if you had it lying around the shop. Sell it and buy something that works better for a car.

I'm not advocating cheaper, not advocating more conformist, I'm advocating not sucking.

Yikes, those welds are scary. Looks like the control arms were cut & re-welded with an extra order of boogers.
