Best $60-$80K New Car for AX/DD

My reading indicates that the C4 is going to be a tad porky as it arrives in the USA, think "American Stig" scaled. The thing is not going to be far from the Frisbee Twins in weight.

Based on the lambasting that the FRS takes for not having enough power, I can't see where the C4 is going to cut it with a 1.7 liter engine. The twins could easily turbo their way past the Alfa turbo time bomb ( The"C4" name might come back to bite them!) AND still carry a case of beer.

Regardless, if I were spening y'all's $$$ I would take the C4.

Assuming someone (not me) wanted to splurge on a new AX/DD car to run in stock/street class, what do you think is the most competitive AX car in the $60-$80K range? I've been thinking through the following: BMW M3/M4 Camaro Z28 Corvette C7 w/ Z51 Alfa Romeo 4C What do you guys think?

Which is more important, autocross or daily driving? Local or National level autox? I've got a hard-on for Teslas, so that's what I'd be buying for an $80k daily, and it would be entertaining to take to local autocrosses, but probably not a factor at a national event. I'd hate daily driving an Elise, but that's the easy pick for Super Street. It's yet to be developed, but I suspect the C7 is going to be a badass in SS as well. the '09-11 Nissan GTR is also classed there and should be good.

GT3's, C6's, and Vipers are all a factor in SSR.

Probably the car that I'd most want to DD that would be a factor at a national autox would be the 1LE Camaro in F-Street. A close second would be the Focus ST in G-Street. Neither one of those even tickles your budget though. If the C7 proves good in Super Street (and with it's magic diff I think it will), then that might be the one that is both a badass daily and a good national autocrosser that is in your price range.

The new c7 Z06 I saw at a dealer recently stickered for 80k, so I'd buy that. They also had 2 Z28s, and they looked awesome in person, but for basically 5k more I would have brought the z06 home.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Ok let's say we wanted to buy a street-class car that could win a nationals event without getting crazy expensive shocks? Just alignment, better wheels and tires, one sway & Koni shocks. Ignoring the DD-ability.

Forget it. Its in the rules now that to win nationals you need two trailers, one for tires and a shock dyno, the second for rule books and protest forms. Konis are banned unless the receive a custom revalve after each run, Penskis or Ohlins are the minimum normally accepted.

Haha, hope you are kidding. Sorta defeats the purpose of stock/street class if that is true. :(

Hey, you can DD a motorcycle in Greenland if you really want to. From what I have read, the 4C is loud, very loud, has no storage space, has a harsh ride, and requires a lot of attention to keep it on the straight and narrow. It wants to turn, which is great on track, but not so good for the highway commute. If you are OK wearing earplugs, a kidney belt, and only carrying what will fit in your pockets, the 4C might be a good DD. I am OK with some discomfort in exchange for performance, but most auto journalists I have read agree that the 4C is too much.

This only makes me want one more.....

The Camaro 1LE that won F-Street this year was bone stock, minus the tires, and I'm pretty sure was driven to Lincoln in competition prep. It has really good shocks stock from what I hear. Corvettes traditionally do very well with very little prep. Of my original list, the Focus ST is the one that will probably take the most prep, but that's because it's the cheapest.

M3/M4 has been classed into AS, where it has no chance.
