Some of my autocrossing friends did this on the book of face, and it turned out to be sort of fun, so here goes:

Post up a pic/description of the car YOU WOULD BUY out of any available on your birth year.

Notes: Theoretically, this could reveal personal information and/or open the posting party to age-related ridicule. Don't like it, feel free to ignore the tread. Since this is about what car each individual posting party would buy, THERE IS NO WRONG ANSWER, so don't troll other people's choices.

I'll start:

See my garage. 1985 Toyota Celica. Love it.

'89 was a pretty cool transitional year.

I'd have a hard time choosing between an 88 Supra and a 5.0 Mustang LX notchback. A 911 would also be awesome.

Way to many cool cars to pick from, but I guess I would have to go with (obvious I know):

(the coupe though, I just linked a convertible because it's such a nice car)

Based purely on looks and assuming I could actually afford them, close toss-up between these 2, in these colors:

Unfortunately I've driven an 840 and wasn't too impressed, but damn if they don't look good! Maybe a manual would make it livable. Also note none of these even closely resemble my current fleet...I should start living my dreams!

'79 was not a great year for cars, but I think these are cool:

In reply to Brokeback:

Uh...were you born twice or something? Either they started making the E31 waaaay earlier than I thought, or the 280ZX had a much, much longer run than I thought!

Well, I would want:

or:

But I would not buy right now. Maybe the 911 if they ever come back down.

I have already owned the following available during my birth year (all body styles, not necessarily did I own the exact year):

Will probably buy at some point (original question):

Meh...I was born the first year commonly recognized as the post muscle car era, so hp took a nose dive that year in many cars.

or maybe an SVO. Kinda hard to choose a car from 1985... I looked at Esprits and maybe a Ginetta G27? Mosler Consulier?

I do love me some square headlight fox and the saleens are real lookers and I know enough about mustangs to make a purse from the pigs ear...
