This has been a great post -- lots of awesome suggestions. One more outlet for good cheap batteries is Pull-a-part. My local store remans batteries pulled out of the cars and sells them cheap.

I use the Interstate battery dealer in Flint. I bought a reconditioned battery for just under 40 bucks about 18 months ago. It works great. I have used them for many years and I have always gotten years of service out of every one.. they also have blemished and missmarked new batteries for well below market price. I guess since this got bumped Ill add info. Im using the smallest lawn tractor battery I could find at Menards. Has 330 CCA and cost me no more then 25$
