Yes, I'm back on a BRZ kick.
I've finally accepted I'm not going to spend $2800+ on a hardtop and Blackbird roll bar for the NC Miata, and the other options are either not what I'd consider safe enough for track work, or a convenience hassle I don't want.
Since it's likely the wife and I will be moving to Dallas next year, I suspect I will spend more time in parking lots then at race tracks since we won't have a tow vehicle.
What are the best classes for the BRZ so I can read up on the rulebook?
autox?
They're pretty dominant in STX(street touring), full exhaust and a tune will get you a pretty decent amount of HP.
Also fairly competitive in CS (street), though there the torque dip will hurt you a lot more. The prep is quite a bit cheaper though.
I don't think anyone has done a full CSP build that I'm aware of, but that's more or less spec miata anyway.

Excellent, thank you sir!
Probably even more competitive in street next year, since the 370Z will be in BS. So the main competition there is the RX-8 and the NC Miata. We have a pretty decent showing of FRS/BRZ up here in both STX and CS (and a few in SM with superchargers) so it's a fun class. They have a pretty amazing amount of grip with just a tire upgrade too. Unfortunately you're pretty camber limited in street, I think the best I got was around -1.25 in the front. Going to STX allows camber plates.

Given those facts, I have no clue why you would buy a BRZ. You won't be spending time on a track and will be autocrossing, which means no reason to get rid of the Miata.
Why no tracks? I think you are righ near hallet now, but Dallas has tracks too.

I said more time at AutoX, not NO time at the track.

I'm sure you've seen this, but just in case, Flyin' Miata is having fun designing a reasonable track-legal adjustable roll bar of complicated goodness. http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=554550
If this isn't your cup of tea, you really can't go too wrong with the Twins in CS or STX as mentioned above.
I have, that's why I mentioned the convenience part, it's awesome they are building it, but I wouldn't want to deal with it.
What about buying a cheap(ish) track/play car instead? Or does this need to be a one-car solution.

I already had that, it needs to be a one car solution.
Since it's nearly a done deal we will be moving in ~12 months and likely into an apartment/condo, there will be little wrenching opportunities and such.............and honestly, I don't really want to wrench on something older right now.
The NA got that out of my system for at least a few years.
