The Lotus black and gold was to pay tribute to the cigarette company giving them lots of money to race in Formula 1.
Was Pontiac being sponsored by KFC?

despite MOPAR's excellent selection, this gorgeous "graphics package" from Oldsmobile ("embossing package??") made of chrome stripes is a winner

If I'm not mistaken the black and gold T/A came out in either '75 or '76 (round headlights) and was also a John Player Special tribute. That's mostly lost now since everybody just considers it a Bandit paint scheme.
Ahh graphics, stripes, decals, etc. Back when cars were fun. Notice how most of these are 70s and80s cars?
What company does anything like this currently? Porsche GT3 is all I can think of.

Shelby-branded Fords. There were a few Raptors with various optional paint jobs too.
In reply to Keith Tanner :
I came here to post the Raptor's graphics. They're big and obnoxious, just like the truck and I love them for that. So here's two examples in orange, becase that's the raddest color available on a Raptor.
Gen 1s had this:
The newest ones with the 37" tire package make sure to call out the tire size on the bedsides, along with a lil map:
It maybe wasn't the best, but this the only car I had with factory graphics. I had one like this without the body side moldings.

it's a shame that colour makes the car look like a bloated whale.
they look that way in any color! It's part of the coolness of it all!

Special mustangs in general tend to at least offer a little flair:

In the 70s and 80s, people bitched that they were not making cars fast anymore, so they were loading up the slow junk with stickers and stripes instead. Ever see a Volare-based Road Runner? It was made only a few years after Road Runner meant you were getting a 383, 440, or Hemi.

I agree. Black and Gold only works on Trans Ams.
