Not car related, but i’m going to do some carbon fiber foundation repairs on my house.  Where do you who work with it get your rolls of carbon fiber material?  I found a place on ebay with a 24”x360” roll (10yd) for $95 shipped.  I can do the minimum i need with 24”x96” so that’s more than 4x what i need however i am not opposed to having a big leftover roll to make car parts with.

Is this a good price $9.50 per yard?  If it’s high let me know where I can do better, if it’s fair i’ll buy it at the next 10-15% off discount code day.

I researched the systems available for this and i can replicate their kits for about 25% of what they charge for them, so i can save some money and use my house as a guinea pig

i have customers who have had it done and paid thousands for it, but it worked awesome.  I have a spot between two basement windows that has cracked at the level of the openings and is bowed in slightly.  It’s moved 3/16” since we bought the house 10 years ago and i plan to stop it there.

I figure i can be into it for $200 and have a bit left over to make car parts.

Do you do anything to try to straighten the existing bow, or does this just stop it from moving further and bond the wall back together?

Bond it to stop future movement.  It’s a hundred year old house that was moved onto a 70 year old foundation, I don’t push anything back i just stop it from moving further.

The old Ghirardelli chocolate factory near Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco was built from brick, which is not the best material for the area.  They coated the inside of the walls with fiber glass mat years ago - not sure if they used polyester or epoxy resin, but the building was still standing the last time I was down there.

I have always bought carbon fiber cloth and kevlar cloth from Fibre Glast in Ohio. Great service and fair price. I do not use their brand resin (which is re-packaged West). The West System resin may be perfect for your use though, and is less expensive than the Hexion/MGS I use for race car structures. Your eBay price is very good for the cloth. Check Fibre Glast website for types and prices, there are many different weaves.

That would have completely different results than CF banding.

The CF adds a tension component to the block walls (which have no tension resistance). The strength is in the epoxy

Fiberglass coating an entire brick wall would not add a tension component, and it would seal in the water (which would further deteriorate the brick)
