Since the region is expanding and our sites seem to be spread out, plus the fact that I'll be headed to both arkansas and Nebraska this year, I think it's time to stop borrowing dad's utility trailer and crawling out the window.

So I'm looking for places to find an inexpensive tandem axle trailer to haul a 1700lb swift. As inexpensive as possible, but not junk. I need/want it to be safe.

Ask the local dirt track racers where the best place is to get an open trailer near you.

We've done business with these guys for years, and they make a great trailer:

ask for Wally. Great folks with nice trailers.

Craigslist, local newspapers, etc. I see them all the time in the $1K range, which is what I paid for mine.

If you have a welder and a few skills, a trailer is about the simplest thing you can build. If you use quality parts, you won't save a bunch of money, but will have a good trailer.

The cost of steel makes building one yourself a difficult proposition these days. It's really hard to compete with the guys mass producing them. Do a search for "Econo Trailer", they are very popular around here and are good bang for the buck.

Troll all the racer message boards you can find, circle track, drag, etc. I got my used trailer from a drag racer for a very good price. It's ugly (paint? What paint?) but well built and nicely equipped and maintained aside from cosmetics. Cost me $1000, has brakes, tool box, etc.
