The Volvo T6 also sounds incredible, but i'm not sure if you can get one for under $10k... not sure what they came in. I've just really heard them swapped into 240s.

For daily drivers I'd also like to nominate the SVT Contour. The V6 in those have a seriously nice sound, even in stock form.

An $800 1st gen LS400 with $4200 spent on an ITB setup and good exhaust. ;-)

You could EASILY DIY that yourself for waayyyyyy cheaper.

You'd be surprised at how cheap sets of Gixxer 1000 throttles are.

Also, I think that you could do a manual swapped ITB LS400 for $5k. That should FUN!

I picked a set up off of Ebay for $56 shipped as a spare since i thought i'd have to replace one of my 6 on the Escort. Ended up not needing them, flipped them to a Miata guy for $125.

Under $5K--- Datsun 240z, TR6, Alfa 4cyl

Under $10K--- E36 M3, Alfa V6, SBF, SBC

Under $20K--- 308 Ferrari (but that's just cheating)

5k - Miata 10k - 2.0L WRX with TB exhaust they sound mean

The best sounding car I owned was an LT1 Z28 6M with Flowmasters. The sound was just right and changed my thinking about Flowmaster, which up to that point I'd dismissed as being the go-to noisemaker for 350 Chevy pickups.

Agree with SBF. Great sound if it isn't too rowdy for you.

VR6 most strait sixes

Another vote for SBF and a question. SBCs sound merely so so in comparison. Why? They have different firing orders is all I could figure. Old pushrod SBF sound better too so I dont think it is valve train/head related...

Sub 5k - 96-99 ford taurus SHO.....delete all three cats, the resonator, and the mufflers. Sounds better than a modular motor.

Sub 10k - I've never heard anything like the straight piped RB20DET swapped S14 a friend had.....

that is no joke. they're badass. it almost makes you want to ignore everything else about the car it's wrapped in.

That would be amazing. I should do it if my friend (currently driving my '95 LS400) decides not to buy it from me. I should turn it into a wagon while I'm at it.

Eventually an uncorked 3.4L will find its way into my bmw......with just building a custom intake manifold, headers, and megasquirt should be able to net 300-325whp from one n/a. I'm pretty sure it weighs less than a ls1 anyways.

no effort to find a running driving car for under 1,000 dollars either.

I can't find a gen 3 for that, I did buy a running and driving '92 for $300 last year.

I did a bunch of research on these when I was considering putting together a locost. I think that these puppies are like 350 dressed or something silly like that. They are LIGHT! It is a 60 degree so it is already tiny right there. I found NO ONE that acutally tuned them though. No swaps into other cars. If you have some links please shoot me an e-mail. I still love this motor and want to put it in SOMETHING!

This was recorded with a phone, fyi, so there is some distortion. But great googily-moogily, I have a hard time staying out of the throttle in this thing. It gives me an eargasim, everytime.
