So I recently decided I need another Miata in my life. With summer just around the corner, I want a cheap roadster that I can take the lady out in for fun and throw around at autocross on the weekends.

So I just started looking again. Man, I think its probably the worst time to buy a Miata right now. I looked a few months ago and there were multiple offerings with hardtops for under 2k. I should have bought then!

Now there are not many options, and all of them are asking outrageous prices! Look at this! Its a 90 going for 3500!! Seems crazy to me.

And then this NB going for $9000:

Man, I just want a runner. I can fix it up. I have another car so it wont need to be my DD. But still, I thought these cars were cheap. Are they starting to appreciate or something, or is it just a bad time of year to buy?

NAs are appreciating, NBs are still depreciating.

And yes... this the worst time to buy.

Hang around till October or so. Then be ready to make a quick deal. And you'll have all winter to "fix it up."

Yup, we are just about in prime Miata selling season, which is why I'll be listing my NB for sale soon. Tax returns and nice weather both help drive demand for a cheap convertible toy car.

On the other hand, all the good ones are being offered for sale by smart owners in prime selling season so you just might get what you pay for...
A good condition 90-93 at $3,500 is a good price point.

When hunting, more so than time of year, patience and persistence is the key to getting the best deal.

The (asking) prices are going to be higher right about now. But the good news is that the herd will be thicker and the spoils might be juicier to compete in the market. Know what you want and have the funds ready. Leave your card if they say no.

^^ what he said. I grabbed mine two years ago next week (Good Friday if I recall correctly). Paid $1,100 and was the first caller to the craigslist add for $1,300 within 30 min of it being listed. Stopped by the bank after work and drove straight over to look at it. Just have cash and be able to look over something quickly and you can find a good deal.

Maybe I should sell mine. I've thought about it, but am not really motivated to detail it, list it and deal with trying to sell it. It's easier to just let it sit in the garage and drive it a couple times a month.

Yeah, I think that I should also quit looking at Miatas until November.
