Excellent suggestions everyone!

Vintage cars seem to be a little more expensive out here than most places. I think I am going to prioritize the Volvos and the smaller, common pony cars (Darts, early Cougars, etc.). Once I buy it I will have to do a build thread or something.

1970 was a good year.

If you end up getting a 122/1800, PM Volvoclearinghouse and ask him for tips, he's been in and out of those things for a long time. I drove one for Lemons and helped prep it, they are very neato cars.

There is a decent unrestored 1970 volvo 144 near my job. The owner was stuck on $1200 last fall. Maybe I need to go back again and see what he wants for it.

Volvo,Volvo ! Did you know Walter Chronkite raced 544's in the early 60's?

Spend some time checking out any 66-75 volvo choices and you can find cool pics as well.

just did a quick search in Seattle CL and found some juicy choices. I know not close to you but Seattle and Portland being Volvo Mecca thought you might find some inspiration.

Easy. Although I also admire Alfas and such, this would be a great choice - with wire wheels, OD trans and a good stereo.

I live in northern California, and at least here Volvos are one of the best deals as far as getting that type of car in good condition. Opels are usually cheap too, but far more rare, and nice BMWs at the higher end of the price range aren't hard to find.
