Grabbed this off the link on left side bar (site was posted in the classic motorsports forum, thank you!), and backed it up a page or two...
If its a repost, it deserves re-posting

Dont you mean screaming 6 zylinder? I just wish i had screamed down some dirt roads in either of the 4.0 jeeps ive owned.
Nope, 5 zylinder.
I love the fact the Audi logo is crooked and quite possibly held on with zip ties. Shows that it's a real rally car.

Hotness!! I had one of these, and probably treated it worse than the rally car got... Firenza GT, I still kick myself for giving that car away ...
A Detroit to Cadillac rally? Why can't that happen today? That made me sad.
A Mercury Lynx rally car? That made me smile.

Wow, there are some great Rally cars there.
I agree, what happened to this sport? Why can't it happen today?
Not just Rally photos. Did you see this guys complete works?

Lots of track events from the late 70's and early 80's
There is a series about VW Rabbit Cup Racing from 1982. That means the racing was done before the GTI was brought to America. I guess that might mean 1.7L engines since the 1.8L VW entered Rabbits with the GTI.
Someone commented on the Mercury Lynx Rally car, how about the Old Omega FWD showroom stock racer? Yes, it looks to have a roll cage.

I saw him drive in Maine one year.. I believe he was driving the old Hyundai factory Tibby as a privateer or something.

I believe this one was a "fast TSD".. I've never been to one but I heard about many of them from rally old timers. They are dirt road TSD's on nerely closed roads.
Like the recent reincarnation of the POR http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Press-on-Regardless_Rally
I really am too young to know much more....
( found the Detroit page with TSD's... http://www.detroit-scca.org/e107/page.php?13 )
I saw him last winter as a co-driver for Travis Pastrana.
Really great guy to chat with.
