BBORR is the weekend after next. I'll be working a flag station somewhere on the course on the day of the race. For the last couple of years it's been Flag 7, 30-some miles from the Fort Stockton Start/Finish line.
Anyone else going?
They were going to have a "Texas Mile"-style solo drag side event called the Shootout, but there was a problem getting clearance, and then a conflict with ORR practice sessions. The Shootout got cancelled. Oh, well. The main event is on, and that's what counts!

It's a pretty good drive for me from San Antonio, but ill bring it up to some friends and see if anyone's interested.
One of these years. Being in the same state does not mean I'm even remotely close, though I wish I was.
an open road race should be on every GRMer's bucket list. Did the Silverstate classic years ago and still get excited just thinking about it.

Yeah, Fort Stockton is like 11-12 hours from you!! And after those 12hours driving you'd STILL BE IN TEXAS. HOORAY!
Bucket list, I want to run all the open road races
I'm working on the Aero package for the MR2 for next year's race. It's still a little floaty at 110 for me right now. I'm fabbing up some flat belly pans to hopefully do the trick.
Photos from Flag 2, 10.2 miles from the start/finish line. Cars going from left to right are on the Southbound leg, right to left are Northbound.
Lots more photos

I rate your post content as above average; keep up the good work.
Are cars required to be street legal to run?

No, but most are. It makes it easier for getting around between practice sessions if you don't have to trailer.
FWIW, that Corvair was clocked at 209 at the speed trap, averaged 172.3 for the whole run, and came in second in Unlimited. It is street-legal.
Corvettes outnumber everything else, with 64 out of 153 cars on the grid. No Miatas ran this year.
One of my goals is to do that race. In a wagon of some sort, that I drive there from PA.
What are entry fees and other costs specific to an open road event? Would a well built crap-can racer be able to pass tech inspection?

Any more info on the Corvair?

I want to know how fast that dually dodge went.
I would have enjoyed that. They need more road races out he in The Lou.
I've been dreaming of participating in the Silver State Classic for over a decade...
It's about 4 hours from me. I want to go out there one day...

The ladies in that truck ran in the 90MPH class and won the class with a really small time error.

That’s Charlie Friend’s car. Very healthy smallblock Chevy where the back seat was. The transaxle was new this year, replacing a Porsche 930 unit.

Cool! Glad they werent going any faster, really.
Posted some VIDEOS. Start with the Grid number 1, North or South.
Those are some nice engine sounds, IMHO. Hot V8's, V10's, flat 6's, even a V6 and a four or two.
