Big Red, the original outlaw

Was listening to car cast today on a quick lunch time work, did not get to hear the complete cast, but they where talking about this show.

Sounded like it was going to be better than most of the reality car shows.

I remember reading about big red in hotrod or carcraft back in the late 80s and it getting banned by name in the rule book of the silver state classic cause it was faster than everything else. I remember something about a 204 mph speeding ticket....

I've watched the first couple of episodes after listening to that Car Cast episode. I'm a bit lukewarm about it, it's a bit too much "look how great we are" for my taste, and little too much bringing a Howitzer to a knife fight.

OTOH everybody involved is clearly a car person and I watch to because there are few other shows that are for car people by car people.

One big plus compared to a lot of the "reality" car TV shows is that it's pretty much free of manufactured drama, and it also shows that it's been made over a few years instead of throwing the whole season together in a few months.

Typical one was the part about the annual Big Bore shootout at Willow Springs, first time they showed up, they blew two gearboxes because they'd fitted the most powerful engine they had so they came back a year later with a slightly less powerful engine. Not many shows put that into one episode.

I saw most of one episode, and pretty much exactly what Boxhead said. Not perfect but I'll watch it again.

Big Red is badass- i've been in love with that car since i read about it in Hot Rod shortly after i started buying car mags in 1988 or so...

but to be honest, the only thing "Camaro" about it is the sheetmetal and maybe some interior trim... she's a full tube chassis with a high strung big block set about a foot back from where it would be in a factory built car..
