That is AWESOME!
I opened this post, expecting the typical XJ/FJ/BJ truck. The first photo actually garnered an audible intake of breath from me. I love it, and don't you dare paint that door!
Well, okay, if you want to, it is your truck. But it looks so awesome as is. POW! indeed.

In that case, welcome back!

My plans are simple:
Fix brakes and flush fuel system.
BEATERSVILLE 2011!
????
Profit
IT
IS
ALIVE ! ! !
Too bad the carb pukes through a crack in the top section. Luckily the world didn't end as planned as I wouldn't have made it! Rockauto to the rescue, should be here by Tuesday.
Next up: brakes!
they didnt say which time zone was the apocolips. so maybe tuesday is too late.. but i LOVE the starting point! i wouldnt change a thing!
Well I think this may be the most ZAV-looking ZAV on the site. It really looks like you just put it together in a scrap yard to plow through some zombies with
If you want to fix the rust without ruining the look, bedliner, rattle-can and Hammerite are acceptable paints for a ZAV.

Please tell me you got a rebuild kit instead of a rebuilt carb. You are much better off rebuilding that carb yourself, even if you have no clue what you're doing. At least it has all the parts intended to work together. Parts store rebuild carbs these days tend to be a horrible mismash of parts from different years and are nearly impossible to make run correct.
Very nice score there.

Had to get the reman unfortunately. I've redone tons of carbs but this one is just too far gone. Clean inside....too clean when I first had a look. The top plate was cracked at the float chamber and 4 of 6 threads were pulled out. Two of the ears were too thin to re-tap. Even if I pull apart the new one just for the castings I should be OK. I won't send the core in until I know I have a working carb
In other news I replaced 12 feet of hard line and now have squishy 3 wheel brakes. Pretty sure the left front wheel cylinder is rusted solid, but with a helper to finish bleeding I should be able to make it the 4 miles to the show. I got it this far with a vacuum bleeder but nothing gets the last bit of air out like an extra leg.
Junk yard radiator from a V6 5-speed 92 Ram bolted right up save a larger lower inlet. A universal hose fixed that and now I have a cooling system that doesn't leak. At least with no pressure on it, which is more than I can say for the old radiator.
2 days to the show. Will I make it?

Well, the Fiat multi-air 1.4L weighs even less and get's even better economy. Seriously, I'd put the 6BT in there, that be one heavy truck and in the end you'll be much more happier with the 6BT.
It moves!
It, um stops. Sort of. 1 day left to get it safe enough for 4 miles. Tomorrow is gonna be a loooooong day
You can tell it moved because the oil stains are no longer directly beneath it
I shall see you at PHT! I'll be bringing a sharpie to put an exclamation point at the end of the POW.
Car show grafetti FTW!

Sweet! Look for the truck....or for the most disappointed looking bastard in the whole place.
Finally got all 4 brakes working but the pedal still won't return to the top after both vacuum and leg bleeding. So it stops as well as could be expected but the brake lights are always on. Gonna try another vacuum bleed. Took it around the block today. It might make the show, but the steering is scary. Looking for tie-rod ends now.
dean1484 wrote: Add a helper spring to the peddle?
Nope, adjust the push-rod length. Stops awesome now! Or at least as awesome as a huge, heavy truck with four wheel drums can be
Steering is still scary with no parts available in town. I'll be keeping it under 25mph the whole way. So now that I can stop if something breaks I feel better about chancing it.
Next project: plywood the steps so I can get out without putting my leg through the floor. I would use license plates like I did under the gas pedal, but it would take twenty and I don't want to kill me collection. Besides, the new ones are thin aluminum anyway.
This calls for a beer

Correction: next project is replacing the cracked thermostat housing. I replaced the 'stat this morning and noticed some JB Weld on the casting but no crack. Apparently it wasn't there for show! Found a puddle after that last test drive. As I got ready to scramble to the Pull-A-Part before they closed I figured I'd take a shot at the Awesomezone down the street-they had one in stock! They also had the oddball hose I needed last week. I'm never buying from anyone else again.
