OK. my 25 is coming up in just over a month and this means I can then rent a car. I was thinking find something fun and RWD and have a 1-2 day road trip. Any sugestions on how to do this?

GREAT IDEA! Rent a Mustang/Solstice/G8 for a trip around Lake Michigan.

It will be really fun in the snow!

I rented a C6 vette from Thrifty and it was a ton of fun. Something like $200/day. Unfortunately auto only but I don't think you're going to find a stick shift rental from anywhere but an exotic rental shop. That means big money, low mileage included, etc.

I rented a V6 droptop Mustang last year and the wife and I cruised down Highway 1 from San Francisco to Santa Cruz, then back up thru San Jose. One of the best times of my life (so far).

I recommend the convertible + scenery package, since you're basically going to be stuck with a slushbox as others have said. If you can work some twisties in there, all the better.

Rent a Hertz Shelby or the rental C6 Vette.

Check with the rental car company directly but here are my experiences.

Hertz will pre-assign a car to you and when you arrive the car will be there with your name. You have no choice of the specific model and changing cars is difficult and combersome.

On the other hand, National Car will not assign you a car, rather you head out to the lot and picj the one that you want. The mid-sizes are in one row, the SUV's in another and so on. You will like this experience better because it is your choice.

The airport locations typically have the newest models and the best selection.

I'm hoping for a corvette but smaller, like a solstice or mustang would also work. My birth day is the first sat. in april but I might wait till may for better weather. The great lakes sounds nice but New England coastal would be better.
