The driver's side window started clicking when going up or down, which pointed to an imminent regulator failure. Rather than have the glass fall into the door at an inopportune moment, I opted to replace it. Got the new one from FCP Euro and popped it in - not a terrible job, just fussy. Inevitably, the adjustment was off, and I didn't have time to fuss with it then, so I just dove back in this morning and fiddled with it until I got it close enough to seal (the adjustment is done by two toothed wheels that exert pressure on the plastic shells that hold the glass - of course, there's a BMW factory tool to make this easier, but naturally I don't have it).

The remaining problem is that the window is only intermittently responsive to the button, and the little drop/raise sequence when you open and close the door is not working. I did the reset procedure with my scanner, and it cycled the window, so I know there's power and that things stayed aligned, but pushing the button doesn't do anything (passenger window works fine). No DTCs present. No more time to delve into it today. I'm sort of hoping against hope that it will heal itself with time and additional start/stop cycles, but in lieu of that, anyone got any suggestions?

I have had something similar happen with mine.  With the window up, hold the switch in the up position for ~3 seconds, then drop the window down and hold the switch in the down position for ~3 seconds with the window all the way down.  If the window is already down, reverse the order.  Hopefully that'll address the issue.

That's manual reset procedure. I did it with the scanner because my window is currently not responding to the switch, so it won't go up or down.

Is the window drop when opening/closing actuated via the door catch? I have not check on my other BMWs, but on the e36 there is a little switch there and if something is not making contact you get that problem. I wonder if the window is adjusted in a way that doesnt allow the door to be completely closed.

Ahh, that's my bad.  Wish I had more info to help.

And just like that, it's working (for the moment, at least). I've had electronic stuff on this car get flummoxed by too many ignition cycles or too long with the key in the slot without starting, but after a while it resets. That seems to be what's happened here - either that or the same poltergeist that was affecting my Miata the other day.

Slippery, I'm not sure if the door catch is involved here, but the door is definitely closing fully.

Yeah, I have a 135 with a lot of miles on it.  Sometimes you just have to let those electronic gremlins go away by themselves.  This morning after startup I got a yellow "Brake" warning light.  It wasn't red, so I knew it wasn't a failure.  After my stop for coffee, the light was gone.  Go figure.
