I saw a sweet a$$ silver 7 series from the 80's today near cincinnati, meant to take a picture of it but regretably did not. There was an M badge on the back, I didn't know they made an M version of this car, did they? Or did the dude slap an M badge on it?
There never was a factory M version of the 7 series, although more than one of them had an M5/M6 engine installed by their owner at some point. A friend of mine owns one.
Non - M BMWs with M badges are generally considered posers, but in fact the M badge was an offered accessory for any BMW back then...I have an early 1980s accessories catalog and it's in there.
I never heard of an M7. I'm gonna say no but there's many more knowlegable people here.
EDIT: stuart beat me to it
No M7. The M5 was the first offered in the US IIRC.
No M version, as noted, but there was a factory turbo 745i and an ultra-luxury L7.
Wikipedia says they sold some with that engine in africa, but who knows.
Have to wonder if BMW missed an important niche by not offering an M7

That was the one exception - they sold the 745i turbo car in europe, but in South Africa the few 745i's that were sold used the twin cam engine instead.
