Thoughts?
I like smaller cars so this appeals in that regard. It's not very "special" as M cars go however, kind of like the E36. It adds M diff, suspension, brakes, and wheels. The forum chatter has been some disappointment over the standard seats, mirrors, roof (not carbon), hood, and engine (warmed over N55). Considering it weighs almost as much as the M3/4, I'm inclined to agree. It seems they held back to push people into the bigger pricier cars.
It comes down to the driving experience, but it looks like a few key elements are missing here. Eyeing this and the Focus RS, I think I'm more likely to get a used Cayman or E90 M3.
I definitely like that they are making it, and it certainly looks pretty cool, but it is not something I would buy.
It has most the boxes ticked for me, problem is BMW is losing their way and starting to become more and more toyota bland with each car, Not saying they are inferior product but does not have the want factor for me like anything before the E90.
I miss the old BMW.....
My thought would be that the M235i with the dealer installed LSD is probably good enough for me.
looks like a much better mustang.
but there's something so cheap and american trash that I love about the mustang...
Looks cool but doesn't do anything for me.
I see too much SN95
Maybe it's the area just behind the driver?
It could totally grow on me though.
Hey look, its a more powerful E36 M3
It seems like this is one of the few new cars that still has good visibility. The A-pillar isn't gigantic and blocking out other vehicles from view. This is a complaint I've been hearing a lot lately. This BMW looks to have a pretty good greenhouse.
Honestly at over 50K, there is absolutely no drive for me to get this over the GT350. Long term the GT 350 will hold it's value better, has a lot more power, and I think is just a much better overall package.
Sheit. If this car holds its value or appreciates like the 1M has then it's a pretty solid investment. If it can be had through the European Deliver Program I may have to pick one up in Munich. Drive it for a year or two, then sell it for ten grand more than I payed. That's living the dream.
It's a good looking car; but, the price factor for what you get is like paying for Fiji water when the 7-11 brand hydrates you the same. As in other options perform similar, if not better, for cheaper.

The 1M was significantly more reduced in production volume though and was crazy expensive when it was released in the first place after markup.
Love the proportions; the 4 series is almost visually as big as last gen's 6 series.

My biggest issue is price, I don't see it being sub 60k equipped and that puts it right into the M3/M4 base territory. It does however make the AWD focus RS that costs 20k less seem more appealing

THIS! Okay, we were looking in a totally different segment, but we've ruled out two or three cars recently without doing more than sitting in them because their A-pillars blotted out the world. We lived with a Leaf for two years, and I will never deal with that kind of absurdity again... I can't believe in a world so concerned with safety (including pedestrians) that we have such ridiculous lack of visibility.

Yeah, me too. Seriously, what was wrong with the 3/5/7 model structure? Throw in a coupe every now and again when the mood strikes. Done. This new over-diversified lineup is ridiculous.
I like the size of the car and I'm sure I would love driving it but...
...not a fan of whatever is going on with the front bumper styling. My favorite thing about older BMWs is the attractive but understated styling. Even the M cars could look aggressive without being obnoxious. That hasn't been the case for a long time.
I think it looks awesome, personally. Understated but masculine.
I read somewhere else the starting price is supposed to be $51-52k, makes sense as that's about $20k above starting for the normal 2. Although I'm sure optioned how you'd want it, it will likely be $60k.
And a tune and/or E85 will have that number well north of 400hp quick.

This car is based on the same platform as our M235i, and to BMW's credit, you CAN see out of them. Our car feels very much like an E36 M3 size-wise, and visibility wise--- which is a good thing. (especially in these days of bathtub seating arrangements)
BMW M cars generally come with everything you want / need, so I don't see much need for options.
No, it won't hold it's value like a 1 series M---nothing will. They sold less than a thousand in the U.S.

The styling is actually very understated and conservative if you park it next to a new Prius....
