I'm having trouble locating part numbers for the internal parts of the BMW small case (168mm) lsd. Realoem only shows the whole unit and all the other sources I normally use only list parts for the medium case (188mm and 210mm I think) differentials. I'm specifically looking for the clutch discs. I have heard a rumor that the discs out of a 924 diff might work but I would like to get a little more support on that before I spend the $70.
The bearings are standard and you can get them from Timken or SKF. The clutches, shims and so on - you have to call ZF, BMW does not sell them or the shims for the R&P.
Swap in a medium case.
Profit?
Thanks GPS! Pardon my ignorance but what is ZF? Z31, got the small case for real cheap and am not planning to upgrade power. Medium case just wouldn't be worth it. It's a 318ti and I'm just swapping the open diff chunk with the lsd unit and using the same case, ring and pinion.
ZF is the company that makes the diffs for BMW.

Good to know, thanks again!
Have you checked http://www.diffsonline.com/ ?
I have a very nice small case LSD from an E30 318 I'll let you have for less than the cost of the parts for a rebuild. I took it in trade for a medium case LSD I wasn't going to use. If you still want the parts, check with Blunt tech. He's a guy that sells parts very cheaply on the 2002 forums. /www.blunttech.com/
Diffsonline.com has the clutch discs for the small case diffs....IIRC they were 70 bucks each.
It's been awhile since I contacted them, but they do carry the parts.
I haven't opened up the unit yet so it might be fine. I want to see what my options are while I wait for the time to tear into this. Thanks for all the tips and the diff offer, I'll try to take it apart this weekend to see if I need anything.
Go to Blunttech.com, or email him directly. His shipping is insanely fast and it's near impossible to match his prices.
