Bolt in bars require 3/16 thick plates sadwhiching the floor.

My main hoop feet need to go in 3 different planes.

Cut and weld, or find a guy that can accurately bend 3/16 plate? Ehich is safer/legal?

think bent is better.

In reply to Dusterbd13 :

You have a hydraulic press and angle iron to use as bending dies. Sounds like you are the the guy that can bend the plate. Slow and steady, wear safety goggles.

Ummm......

How does that actually work? I had the thought, but couldn't figure out how to actually make something to do it.

Just get your angle iron lined up where you want a bend, with the plate on the arbor plate V's. Slowly add hydraulic press and stop when you think you have enough bend. Check part and repeat until you have what you want.

For the 3rd direction, you may need to make a relief cut to get the bends to go in 3 planes, then weld the seam. Try to keep the plate as simple as possible.

Cardboard is a good way to mock up the flat pattern. If you need some odd curvature, you can use the trailer ball idea we discussed to crown a small area.

You could borrow some inspiration from these guys

Or just buy the kit. It works well.

You can make individual plates for each section and weld them together.  Feet are stronger if you can carry them to a vertical plane

I have no problem with cutting and welding.  If you have to bend in more than one direction, you will likely have to split the material anyway.

On a footing that needs to be bent for small angles you can usually hammer the plate to shape after it's been welded partly to the floor. For something like a floor to rocker plate I'd just use two pieces and run a bead along the inside joint. You can leave a bit of a gap between the two pieces and you should get a good joint if you MIG it.

You will get a stronger connection if:

If you can place the down tube right up against the rocker plate and weld the tube to both the floor plate and rocker plate.

Or weld a small plate to connect the down tube to the rocker afterwards.

Open cars that are quicker than 13.99 require door bars. Nhra says swing out are legal. The diagrams show only straight tube examples.

Are bent door bars legal? Assuming that i can convince steve to bend them....

I bend 3/16 in a hefty vise w/ OA. Large crescent wrench for bending leverage. Bend radius depending, I can get a tighter radius w/ more heat and BFH. Or, grinding a radius on a piece of angle iron to bend it over while chucked in the vise, again more heat and hammer. That's two plane. Three plane, pie cut out, grind weld edges, heat and bend (if that's what I think you're doing here)

But if you're cutting out anyway making three separate pieces then fit and weld together could be easier and have a tighter radius to the floor radius. I don't know w/o seeing it.
