I have been looking for a winter driver/off road toy for a while now and picked one up today.

What I know it has:

Warn Winch with hitches front and rear with winch connectors

5 new 31x9.50x15 Interco TSL Super Swamper Radials($$$$ worth of tires)

Dual Battery set up

Webber carb

Rally Tops Sport hard top.

What the seller claims it has:

1.6 8v out of a tracker

Transfer case gears

Detroit style lockers front and rear

What It needs:

Clutch cable adjustment badly

Shifter bushings as I shouldn't have a foot of shifter movement in gear

Power steering. OMFG so heavy

Fix rear hardtop lock

Very cool!!!

If it has the 1.6, there will be a 1/4" adapter between the transmission and engine unless they used the 1.6 transmission with integral transfer case.

If it has the lockers and gears, it will be practically unstoppable.

Again very cool. Keep us posted.

If you want power steering, I've got the pump, hoses and gear, I would be willing to part with. I went from 33" tires down to 29" tires and no longer need it. I'll shoot you a PM.

Confirmed to be a 1.3 as it has a mechanical fuel pump on the passenger rear of the block.

0 rust is the key to these. Most of them have a bad case of the tin worm.

I'm running bigger tires than that now and my steering isn't heavy...you might want to check the condition of the steering box.

Edit: Oh it has a detroit locker in the front...that's unfortunate. Yes so it will take a ton of force to "steer" now.

Always loved these. Any chance a 6'4" ape like myself would fit in one?

Yes. I'm 6'2" and I've got 4+ inches above my head in my tin top.

Regarding the power steering, and this might be preaching to the converted, but technique helps. Steering effort falls off immediately at any speed other than zero. If you don't try to turn the wheel when your road speed is zero, effort will reduce greatly. And, to be clear, I'm not talking about 25 mph, or 15 mph. I'm talking 0.5 mph. I saw the bit about the lockers earlier up the thread, and that may make it so you still want the assist, but my non locker'd Samurai never made me want for power steering so long as I made sure I always had some rolling happening while turning the steering.

Toyman01 is the throttle in yours heavy? It is in this one. I am also about to place an order to low range for some stuff: Shifter bushing kit, oil filter and spark plugs, sticky starter relay upgrade new lcd dash clock.

It is in mine, will have to look at. I almost put my fiesta in the ditch across the street because it was so light compared to the samurai.

I passed on one last spring and am still regretting it. Hard to find rust free examples up here in the north country.

I am guessing it has a 1.3 head on a 1.6 block. It has what looks like a 1.3 head since it has a mech fuel pump on the rear pass side of the head. The block on the front Drivers side has s 26 on it and the rear drivers near the bellhouseing has g16v801281 on it.

The throttle on mine is pretty easy, but it's TBI, not carbed.

The clicky starter fix is an easy build for about $6. I used a standard 12V relay and wired it in about 15 minutes. You don't have to buy their kit.

If it's a 1.6 block, you will have a adapter plate between the block and transmission. The shiny plate between the block and transmission pictured below, is the adapter.

Here's the wiring diagram for the starter fix. You use the wire off the starter solenoid to to fire the relay.

The relay is a standard automotive relay from any parts store.
