So my wife and I decided to get a new weekend car (she did not like the cts-v) and we had a car lined up when i saw a 2001 vette with half the mikes and same price at an actual Chevy dealership. Anyways, due to a time crunch, we buy it over the phone and go and do paperwork. they were detailing it when we did the paperwork. I pop out and get in after its done and first thing, its idle is slightly funky and it has harnesses. I start to drive and the LS1 feels so coked out its worse than the LS6 in the CTS-v. I get home, pop the hood and low and behold, there is a vortex ram air setup, long tube headers and an exhaust i haven't identified yet.
So what I got with it is the service records, so its been maintained. all the add ons look well done. so did i do good? Im on the fence, no rattles, solid, only 37k on it. paid 4500 under NADA... has the HUD and the enamel roof, not glass.
Oh im aware of the stupidity of buying sight unseen, but you think I got a deal?
So you didn't go look at the car, drive it, or open the hood before you went in and signed the paperwork?
I mean, it sounds like you got a good find, but the skeptic in me says "well, the dealer knew it had this stuff done and didn't bother to mention it to you on the phone - why is that?"
Also, just curious....your wife didn't like a CTS-V, so you got a Corvette? Man, where do i get a wife like that??

Any suspension options? Manual or Auto? C5s are bargain performance. I bought a ‘99 FRC that had a similar set-up. Vararam intake, SLP long tube headers and Loudmouth exhaust. Mine was a manual. Make a very nice track day car after adding an oil cooler and upgraded radiator. I could not run a full 30 minute session as the oil temp would be heading to 375 degrees. Parts are reasonable. I bought Doug Rippie revalued Bilstein Shocks and C6 Z06 springs. I run Z06 rear wheels at all 4 corners with 295/35 Nitto NT05 since I drive on them to the track.
I paid $12000 for mine. Around here you can buy very nice examples for under $15k all day. C7s are the “hot ticket” so there are a lot of guys trying to move unwanted C5s.
In reply to maj75 - not sure on the suspension yet. its a 6 speed. This is the LS6 block motor with the heavier pump. Its going to be a around town and occasionally to work car, maybe a few trips to the track but probably not.
in reply to Irish44j -to get a wife like this, you gotta go through and get rid of the first wife lol. They warrantied it so i guess they aren't worried about it.

You can get a warranty on wives now??? I’m afraid to ask how much that costs!

I got one on mine! Didn't cost a penny...Her Father walked her up to the appropriate location, handed her off, shook my hand, leaned in and whispered "Transaction Complete!" with a big smile on his face...
Am I the only one that is waiting for pictures???

I wish I’d gotten an extended warranty on mine. In the future I’m sticking to rentals so the upkeep doesn’t kill me.
You did good I think. Electrical parts for 97-99 are hard to come by, I think ‘01 should be better. If it has stability control that system was upgraded for ‘01 which is nice to have. You won’t find many weak spots in a manual trans car other than the factory seats aren’t great. If they’re comfortable enough no need to change, lots of options if you ever want something more supportive. I would say keep an eye on the harmonic damper/crank pulley but it sounds like yours may have been upgraded.

With those mods I would bet my lunch money it is cammed as well. That may be that "coked out" feel you are detecting. Sounds like you got a deal, you have about 4500 in upgrades on it already from the sound of that engine bay. Can we get pics of this thing?!?!?!
THIS THREAD IS UNLESS WITH OUT PICTURES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am dying here I want to see photos!!!!!!!!
Oh to the "coked out" it runs like Charlie Sheen on tiger blood winning.
Sounds like a good problem to have.

What does a warranty on the wife run you?
In reply to hoochmcfluff :
That car looks great. I like the color, actually.

I dont know what NADA is on a regular C5 coupe but 4500 under 'street value' for a modified and poorly represented one is like 7 grand. If you like it you probably did ok.

I think it's a great term. I got it right away.
The Chevy dealership actually sold you a car with a harness bar in it off of their used car lot? That’s crazy! And who doesn’t remove something like that before trading in a car? I’m guessing it had to be an ex-wife or widow who ended up with a car she never wanted.
Hehhehehe so people have been asking how you warranty a wife. Easy. Get divorced, realize in your next marriage that you don't sweat the little stuff, listen more, and do some dishes. Thats the cost of the warranty. The warranty entitles you to a loving marriage with a great kid and a wife who is 6'1", who at that height, automatically makes "yes Dear" real easy to say. I'm 5'4"

I'm lucky. I waited until i was 39, and married my last wife first. Twenty three years and counting. I tell her that's a good start.
