They wanted to believe the hype......but the KoolAid's punchbowl got E36 M3 in pretty badly. All three seem to be genuine car people, hell one even drives a restomod Opel GT to work every Friday.

I had exactly this debate two years ago. The Ford dealership wouldn't let me test drive the FoST so that was immediately off the list.
Drove the FR-S enjoyed it but it didn't move me. Interior was ok but things rattled and sounded pretty hollow when I shut doors and the trunk.
Walked to the dealer next to where SWMBOs X-Terra was being serviced and test drove the MS3 that I saw on the corner. After the first time I mashed the loud pedal to merge I was sold.
I've heard second hand stories that the FoST was destroying brakes during track days due to the electronic differential. That was another strike for it before the Ford dealership people eliminated it for me but it was present in my mind going in.
