OK now I have your attention . If anyone here seen the last car I built you will figure out what I am up to pretty quickly.
Anyways can you guys tell me what commonly available front wheel drive car had the most power and a standard transmission. I am looking at another mid engine experimental car.
I'm guessing an Acura TL/CL.
Assuming, that is, you mean most power stock.
Standard transmission, you'd probably be looking at either late model Maximas or 3,8l Mitsubishis for transverse, or super-rare 3.7l Audi A8s for longitudinal, which used the same basic transmission as Boxsters and 968s and may not have even been available on this side of the pond with manual transmission. (The 3.7 was only available with FWD, and FWD A8s were only sold here for a year or two)
Vw 1.8t?
Any Subie motor.

So shouldn't you be looking for the strongest transmission of any vehicle in which the company has decided to plant the engine at 180 degrees? That should open up your options quite a bit being that you would be looking for any 180 degree FWD, AWD, or Mid/Rear engine's companion transmission.

Whats a 180 degree engine placement? wouldnt that be backwards?
I am assuming that the strongest front wheel drive car will have a robust transmission.
Most high powered FWD cars have automatics. So you're pretty much limited to the 250-280hp that the 6-speed Maximas made.
Not a bad drivetrain in the least, mind you. The unfortunate part about it was that it was wrapped in a largish Nissan.
90 degrees = vertical (Mutdang)
180 degrees = horizontal (Deathscort)
Maybe not offical, but thats what I call it. 0 degree sounds weird.
500cid Cadillac Eldorado?
455cid Olds Tornado?
No so much the biggest HP but the biggest displacement.
Mazdaspeed3? Saab 9-3 V-6?

Mazdaspeed3 for sure. Good power- super strong trans.
Wouldn't SRT-4 be up there in the ranks? Those seem to have about bottomed out on the depreciation curve too.
It is my firm belief that the strongest fwd manual trans ever made is the Toyota E153.
As a plus, it came attached to the 2.0 turbo 3sgte or a good v6.
I like the Mazdaspeed3 idea.
05+ SRT-4 with factory limited slip. 400hp with a computer and injector swap.

From what I've seen, the trannies are made of glass- though they do make power.
And you aren't making a real 400hp with the stock turbo either.
Camry V6? Good powertrain, Lotus approves.

Odd, considering they are built for use behind turbo diesel motors in caravans. Much like Subaru transaxles, the owners have a lot to do with longevity.
I've not blown up an A-525 in any of 8 or so turbo L-bodies that have cycled through our family. Others blew them up on the test drive from the dealership.
I also forgot to mention the turbo upgrade. I think the stock turbo runs out around what, 300hp?
I'm gonna have to jump on the 'yota bandwagon here too.
The speed 3 is up there, and very very strong, but it's cost prohibitive compared to a 2gr or a 3gte.
And +1 on srt4 trans being made of glass.
They die.
alot.
In reply to egoman:
I'm not sure if it's the highest, but the 3rd gen Acura TL-S had 280hp with a manual trans. And I could be wrong, but I think the Accord used the same manual trans.
Rusted out Saab 900
SRT 4
WRX/STi etc
Hard to argue with magic spinning snails of goodness.
