E30 325is.

Man you are just full of piss and vinegar (and yourself). Get the hell over it!
W41 powered Olds cutlass. Can make a good amount of power and can be found fairly cheap. Uncommon enough to be a sleeper - common enough for parts.

stop taking it personally.
to the OP.. Best projects I've ever found have been targets of opportunity. Every time I've going out looking for a specific car or type of car I never find the object of my search, but I usually find something else that was pretty damn cool. So.. Just open your eyes and look around. You will usually find something pretty neat. Just don't be hung up on something so specific and something cool will come around.
I'm not taking it personally. Every post you've made since you got laid off has been bitter, inflammatory, and just plain rude. You've made personal attacks, slandered people, and then gone back and stealth-edited out the really mean stuff so you don't get banned. Get over whatever it is that's making you such an asshat!
Whatever, can you two kiss and make up now? You've both said some inflammatory BS in recent past thanks to your personality's being really shiny and happy.
Can we get back to helping the OP find a project car?
I think the main problem is that a lot of people see the P71 thing as a force-fed Meme and never take the car seriously, myself included.
Miata is one thing, they're awesome.
E30s are awesome.
P71s are cool..... but it doesn't scream "project car," which is what this guy is asking for. P71 is NOT the omniscient answer for 90% of the people on this board, much as a few people would like us all to think so.
My opinion, your mileage may vary.
Taiden wrote: Right now I am leaning more towards the E30. Is there a huge performance difference between the 325is and the 325i?
Both i versions of the 325 have the same engine, just different numbers of doors. It's the e version you have to watch out for.
Some more unusual possibilities that came to mind:
Ford Probe / Mazda MX-6 / Mazda 626, either with the DOHC V6 or turbo four banger. I sometimes miss the first gen Probe GT I entered in the $2004 Challenge. With other Ford/Mazda hybrids, there's the Escort GT.
H22 in an Accord - one of the few cases where a Honda swap makes sense but seldom gets tried.
Merkur XR4Ti.
Even a 325e is a good car, i drove one once that wasnt even in good shape at all and it was still fun.

isn't this what the internets is for?
I'm joking.. seriously.. I thought I wrote a funny comment about the car and you were offended. I'm sorry I hurt your feelings.
Being the victim of the San Francisco Bay Area commuter traffic, I'm seriously considering picking up a nice blacked out P71 with push bar bumper, baby moon center caps on the steel wheels with both driver and passenger chrome spotlights still installed in the A-pillars. It should make the hour long commute from Danville to Los Gatos and back that much more relaxing...
Oh! Look! Here's one for $2500! http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/cto/1077934513.html
That's cheap enough, I may just get it...

Booo they are cool engines, but it's still a taurus, Trust me I know, lack of parts is going to be a big problem soon.

I could care less about the P71 comments. It's mostly the politics/bike riding/off topic threads I was pointing out.

As opposed to CAMRY'S!!?!?!?!!! That's your answer for everything! Come on man!

A berkeleyin' men!
This thread requires an E30.
What about an A2 (1985-92) VW Golf or Jetta?
They are roomy, good on gas, parts are dirt cheap and they are a blast to drive.
If you wanted to go swapping stuff around, a 2.0L 16V from an early 90's Passat would fit (the engines are only about $250 around here)...
Or, if you got lucky and could score a VR6 Corrado parts car for cheap, a VR6-swap would bolt-in project (using parts from said Corrado donor car) and make a second-gen Golf into a really fast little sleeper!
Imagine a "performace-beige" 4-door, 1985-ish Golf with the rectangular US-Spec sealed-beam lights, a VR6 or hotted-up 16V under the hood and nothing to give the game away but a set of used 15" BBS (Corrado) wheels...

I'm sorry that you feel the need to police my comments.
I'm sorry that the above comment could be construed as sarcastic.
Anyway.. I think the OP wants an E30 + snail shaped premuffler.
Seacrest out.
If you are going to get a 510, put the VQ engine from the Xterra/350/etc in it, not the SR20. It will drive and sound better! That's a lot of cash though. So I'll give you one at of my (endless supply) of potential project cars:
1986 Mercedes Benz 190E 2.3 or 2.5 16v Cosworth.
They are a bit difficult to find, but are out there. I know of one needing a good home in LA for about $3500. I've debating parking it in my driveway for awhile... the fiance, not impressed!
The car is interesting for a racing history prospective, it used to beat up on M3s. It's a cossie. It's a Merc. Most of the bits and pieces can be sourced from a standard 190E. By today's standards it still is pretty good. It has 167hp, RWD and a great chassis.

I'm in Charlotte, NC, but my home is in Portland, ME.
I've narrowed it down to a 240sx coupe (s13) or a 325is. I would prefer the 325is, but people seem to charge out the anal for one.
I am a fan of keeping my eyes open until something falls in my lap. I'll be doing that too.
Can someone convince me that a 6'3" 175 lb guy can comfortably fit in a Miata while still being able to f**k in the back? (LOL) I really want to want a Miata... but I'm a such a big guy.

Lol..... Camrys are rarely my answer.... Just in this case when the OP is asking for something DIFFERENT.
As for me, some variation of Celica is usually my answer. And they've got a lot going for them to start with. (cough don't weigh 3500+lbs cough)
