We are working on the brakes on the ITA Capri project, and when I unbolted the hub from the rotors to have them turned, a few of these parts broke:

They went from one bolt to the other, and I assume they are there to help keep the bolts tight. Can I replace the broken ones with either flat or locking washers? I haven't looked for replacement pieces, but I assume these are the kind of parts from 35 year old cars that are impossible to find, and fabricating them is a last resort.

Call Norm @ Team Blitz, he's got a real sexy website here;

http://www.teamblitz.com/

Seriously, he's probably sitting on piles of them. There's also a few Capri nuts here that could tell you what they think about all this. I'd probably throw lock washers under if Norm can't help or tells you they aren't specifically needed. Don't forget the Locktite!

Safety wire them?

The little wings just bent up along the two sides of the two bolts. It kept the bolts or nuts from turning. Do what you have to do to keep them from turning; or call Norm.

I owned 4-5 Capris and I do remember this metal tab to keep the caliper bolts from coming undone. I usually just threw they away when I did a brake job and never had a caliper bolt come loose! I had some stick and break off but never come out on their own, If tighten correctly. Use Locktight if you're worried. Most car today don't use this type of bolt locking devise and have no issues.

Thanks guys! Of course Norm has some, but he said that locking washers would be fine. I'm going to go with some Loctite.

I am re-building the fuel cell now-new foam and hoses.

And a BIG score yesterday...When I originally built the car I put a Butler Built drivers seat in it. I picked up a uses one from CL yesterday. The guy threw in a set of Simpson belts and a new window net.

Getting a little closer...

Curious about your mk2 Capri, which engine are you using, what trans, etc?

Yep, just a lock plate

Doesn't appear to have been used properly.

If his title is correct the car is for racing in ITA which would make it a 2.8L V6 and the stock 4 speed trans. Rules require stock parts.

In reply to pres589:

A 1977 Capri, 2.8 V6, stock transmission.

I built it 20 years ago, sold it, bought it back in December, slowly "restoring" it.

Most likely for Auto X and hopefully vintage racing.

Just use lock washers. Those are the same Calipers I used on my ITS TR8. They actually look more like the ones in the TR8 factory shop manual than do the stock TR8 calipers. No big advantage to using the Capri Calipers over the TR8 ones except for the fact that the Capri calipers use the same pads as the 240Z, which are way cheaper than the TR8 pads.
