I'm getting a serious Ralph Nader vibe here and its harshing my mellow.

Semi relevant...

We just hired a very attractive young female welder at work who allegedly has an 800 hp Cummins pulling truck

Really? THATS what your worried about on your daily commute? lifted 1/2 ton trucks? not landscaping trucks from the 80s with ONLY the least required repairs to make them move, then haul 1200 lbs of tree stump down the freeway at 15 over the limit? not the lowered/stanced to hell lexus is300 with so little suspension travel that a small variance in the road surface makes the car an airborne missle? not the 400HP suv with a soccer mom at the wheel with coffee in one hand, and mascara in the other? no, none of that, your concerned about a sub 5 yr old truck, with new tires, a proper name brand kit, drivien by a member of this board, (which usually implies higher than average ability and common sinse). Ok, what ever...

nice truck! enjoy the hell out of it. and by the way, no one cares about poor parking when you do it in the back row. its parking like an ass three spaces from the door that gets you keyed.

Nice truck! Gina, you look very happy and that makes me happy. My red truck would probably fit in the bed of your red truck, and both would probably fit in the bed of Clifford with room to spare. Whatever floats yer boat I say! Drive ON!

I did chuckle at the hoe-dozer refrence though. LOL.

Because you stereotyped a thoughtfully modified 4x4 as inherently dangerous. Just a guess.

"Inherently dangerous" and "more dangerous" are not the same thing. Life is inherently dangerous. That is somethimg beyond our control. Whether it is more or less dangerous is something we have the ability to change for both ourselves and other through our choices.

Well as someone who lives in the same area im much more worried about the jacked up 80's E36 M3boxes on lift blocks and 38's with stock brakes running me over then a new stock truck. Not exactly my idea of a good daily driver but if it makes her happy then good deal..

Ohh and you cant bro doze around here without a diesel!

what ebony and nick said. and dropstep, for the most part. (i think you very well can bro-doze with a gas truck).

my signature below pretty much sums up my issue with your view of her truck. you simply have no LOGICAL basis for concern based soley on 5 pictures and the information given. Now, this is America, and you certainly CAN have concern, just not founded, logical, intelligent concern. at least IMO.

have a great day.

What a coincidence. I too have yet to see a single founded, logical, or intelligent argument against the simple physics of raising the crash impact structure, of a vehicle already mismatched in height and weight with the majority of passenger cars on the road, by another 8 or more inches...In addition to raising the center of gravity by the same amount, on a vehicle already mismatched in maneuverability and braking with the majority of passenger cars on the road, and putting it on tires specifically designed to sacrifice on-road performance in exchange for enhanced off-road capabilities. I definitely agree that the quote in your signature applies to our discussion, but we'll just have to agree to disagree as to the manner in which does so.

I was going to build my kids a treehouse but then I read your posts and you got me thinking that all the extra lumber- mostly pressure-treated- will raise the trees center of gravity. Possibly to the point where it may fall over in a storm.

That just can't be safe. Not for the kids, the neighbors fence or the family of rabbits nearby.

I am not sure why everyone is getting in such a twist about what Driven5 is saying. Whereas their original post maybe was slightly harsh what they state is true. I know, I have owned lifted vehicles. And when I am sitting at a light in my Miata and the lifted truck behind me's bumper is level with the back of my skull, well thats a little disconcerting too. I think everybody here can at least agree that by raising a vehicles height you generally are not improving the handling characteristics. I didn't really want to jump in to the middle of this but I can see both sides.

The thing is its a tad ironic on a site that is perfectly fine with driving a tiny, light, convertible with no rollbar and really no head protection (ala Miata, Sprite, MGA/MGA) worrying about auto safety!

That and the multitude of speeding dump trucks, people talking on cell phones, texting, drunks, pieces of E36 M3 cars, elderly dementia folks and all the rest yet a newish, well-executed lifted truck is the focus?
