To be fair, in the 18x9.5 scenario I mentioned, you literally CAN'T use that setup without coilovers. You need the inboard room that coilovers and the narrower springs and perch provide for it to fit.
You'll notice I mentioned this caveat in my initial post.
I see now that he mentioned leaving the car on the stock suspension, in that case, I wouldn't even bother changing the wheels. I'd just slap on sticky tires in the oem size and roll with it. Of course, that is pure personal preference.

And you can still fit 255/40s on 17x9s under stock fenders.
Yes you can. A local SCCA friend with a V8 swapped FRS offered these so he could go even wider. 17x9 Rota Titan 5x100 +42 and Federal 595 RS-RR tires 255/40-17 for $850. He ordered a 5mm spacer so they cleared the front springs. I put them on last night in the heat/humidity, whew. Now time to order those Eibach springs.
Nice! I like the dark bronze on white combo. That's the combo I've been thinking of once I get to order a 2nd gen BRZ.
Although I'd suggest the RCE Yellow springs over the Eibachs.
