Does it matter that they were 3.07 and not 3.05? Prob not.

Oh ok, well... i have whatever's stock. And it's really long.

Still has more than enough torque to start in 2nd and lay some rubber pretty easily, though.

I think i'll start my build thread now.

When we put auto 3.50 (3.55?) gears in my friend's 2wd/5spd Cherokee we found 2nd gear rev limiter for the first time ever, by accident, by blowing through 2nd on the street. We were supposed to take it to the track the next morning!

Too bad the water pump didnt like 6000 rpm and we found the truck in a big puddle of coolant the next morning.

The jeep ran 16.0@85 bone stock with the 3.07s with a first-time drag racer behind the wheel. I honestly think with traction and the 3.50s it's well into the 15s with absolutely no engine mods. Fixed the water pump but never went to the track again. The jeep is still sitting in his yard. I borrowed it a few weeks ago when i popped a brake line in his driveway. :p

Vigo, what were the highway RPMS like with the gear swap?

While trying to look at one of these things as a gas saver is lulz-worthy, i'd prefer to not tank the think deep into the teens in terms of MPG if i can help it. Especially if i'm going to take it up to the Dalton.

I dont remember offhand but it was still well within what's considered 'normal'. It's an ax15 with 235/75/15 tires if you want to run that through a gearing calculator. ~3.5:1 is, or at least used to be, an extremely common rear end ratio for trucks and top gear ratios are really in a pretty narrow range other than t56s so 3.50s in a cherokee is no worse on rpm than a million other stock truck-things with similar tire size and top gear ratios.

Compare that to some 2g monteros which could have stock 4.88 gears!

Ok interesting...

Looks like the 3.55 is entirely decent and probably better with the 5spd than the stock 3.07.

If i want to keep that ratio once i move to 33.5" tires, i'll need 4.29:1 gears.

Excellent, thanks!

Aside: Also found that Novak likes the AX15 for use behind a basic LSx swap. HRM. If supercharging is on the table at about $2k, wonder how much more it would cost to get a 4.8 or 5.3 in there.
