On my journey of 'amass-ALL-the-parts' for the drift car, it needs exhaust as it is currently removed after the flange.

Exhaust is 1.75" and I have no reason to upsize the piping other than a lack of muffler availability. There are no pipes after the flange (about mid way) and it is dual pipe. I want to quiet it down because even at like 2500rpm around the farm its way to loud so 6000+ rpm on track is going to be a bad time.

Eventually I want to create a single tip, side exit exhaust but that will possibly require modifying the floor so rear exit will be fine by me. I have checked most brands I like but they seem to start at the 2.25" size.

Any input on what to look at?

Just sharing something from the back catalog in case it helps: How to build an inexpensive, quiet exhaust that doesn’t cost horsepower.

In the past I've used the Summit Turbo mufflers from summit racing to great effect. Sounded great on my old Taurus SHO's back in the day and were very cheap with tons of different options for sizes and orientations.

Depending on what it is, and how much power you're making, though with a 1.75" exhaust it's likely not much, I was going to recommend the same thing. Any of the generic turbo mufflers are pretty much the same except Dynomax super turbos, which flow exceptionally well, but you pay for it.

Start looking on marketplace or Kijiji and see what you can get for $20

Going to reread this, especially for future endeavors. This particular car needs more power but as it sits, noise reduction will be wonderful first

In reply to Peabody :

Its a 98 328is with a makeshift intake with a cone filter (which stays unless I happen upon oem parts cheap / free) and chopped off exhaust and like 330,000kms on it. Definitely not power hunting with it, just want it to be quieter for my sake and the sake of other competitors / spectators.

If I am reading this right, do you have a two pipes right now?  If so, the go to for my V8 S10 might work.  I am running glasspacks on each pipe, then run both pipes into the cheapest flowmaster knockoff 2 in/1 out muffler I could find.  Might need to run an adapter up to 2" in order to make it easier to find cheaper mufflers.

Correct, I have 2 pipes currently. I have discovered that if I set anything to 'dual inlet' I need to move up to 2" which I am fine with overall, packaging one muffler under the car will be easier than trying to fit 2 mufflers side by side. And larger pipe diameter will also reduce noise as well (if I read the article properly) so even to have the muffler under the car and then just a single pipe out the back will be a vast improvement, and I can throw something in place of the pipe at the rear if it's still too loud.

You're going to have to go with at least 2".

I know well from experience, nobody makes anything in 1.75" any more.

What kind of drift car has a 1 3/4" exhaust system?

You can buy 1 3/4" exhaust stuff in England, lots of it for small Brit cars......my Mini for example runs 1 3/4" stuff. I like the SS things sold by PlayMini for sound quality, but Magnaflow is another good choice.

What's left of a factory 1998 328is?

Summit has pages of 1.75 mufflers starting at $21 and going up to $150. I'd start there. I've had pretty good luck with glass packs on Lemons cars. They don't restrict much and knock the sound levels down to something sort of reasonable.

Actually, this makes sense.  Could just run dual glass packs, and see how they do, since they are pretty cheap.  If it doesn't work out, extend the exhaust and add a dual inlet muffler later.

Walker makes a couple of duel inlet mufflers as well.

This guy is on page one of the above link.

I'm sure I looked on Summit, but I guess not. I do know for sure I've looked on some of those companies websites and not found anything in 1 3/4.

I would make a merge collector, dual 1 3/4" inlets and a single 2" outlet, at least a foot long then into a 2" muffler.
